Could be a nickname to his savior complex, or a reference to his morale being low due to trauma and how he tried to cover it up

Morale got nothing to do with morality. Just a disclaimer, since I've seen some folks take it that way (pause, and not saying you did), but to touch on your point about the savior complex, I do agree, and I also think that it ties back to his running theme about "Uplifting the black community."

Last LP I tried to lift the black artists
But it's a difference 'tween black artists and wack artists

    That was him on DAMN.

By the time we get to Mr Morale, it's no longer him trying to uplift, but Kendrick himself begging to be uplifted/saved from his problematic thoughts and actions. That's why the album is centered around therapy.

I think the album is more cohesive and connected than you give it credit for

Disc 1 is called Big Steppers. Throughout disc 1 Kendrick is addressing his flaws and toxic tendencies, but he isn’t really doing anything to fix his tendencies. He says ā€œreal niggas don’t need no therapy.ā€
He’s tap dancing and ā€œsteppingā€ around his problems instead of working on them.

And near the end of disc 1, Whitney says ā€œStop tap dancing around the conversationā€

Then on the first track of disc 2, we hear ā€œsession 10, breakthroughā€ā€¦and Kendrick finally goes to therapy.
Then throughout disc 2 Kendrick actually starts addressing his flaws and comes to the conclusion that he needs to just focus on working on himself instead of trying to be a savior. He also makes the connection that generational trauma had a bigger impact on him than he realized

The album is to show us that Kendrick is just as flawed and f***ed up as everyone else

whats this gotta do with the music though?

See this is why I hate these book report ass reviews.

Guys, this is entertainment. Your theme doesn’t matter if the music is just art project mishmash.

Is Kendrick Lamar the great rapper of all time?

He’s definitely in the top 10 minimum at this point.

If his pgLang run is as good as it’s been since Family Ties then he will be the undisputed Goat

His overall lyricism may not be as layered as someone like Lupe but there’s so much more to being a top tier Mc than metaphors and similes.

It's one of his most replayable albums while also having a theme

Listen to silent hill or die hard

Nothing overtly complicated about those at all
