was James Blake using Yachty for access to street culture?

    What are you talking about?

That makes no sense because Yachty isn’t a street rapper.

And James Blake isn’t in hip hop so being associated with “street culture” has no benefit to him like it does to Drake

The problem is when Drake stans boil down / minimalize Kendrick's point to Drake not being black and not about Drake code switching and only leveraging his blackness when it benefits him. Nothing to do with his actual skin color

And I havnt seen any Kendrick fan / Kamala fan, most people in California hate Kamala cause of the damage she caused here so the original tweet this debate is about is disingenuous

This is a stupid point because everybody code-switches and how has Drake only used his blackness when it benefits him? He IS black. He doesn't have to do anything to prove his blackness. The reason y'all say this rubbish is because he wasn't raised American. Him and Cole both have white mothers and both identity as black but somehow one has more claim to blackness than the other.

The issue is African Americans feeling like they own blackness as an identity globally. Y'all see yourselves as the only legitimate black people, that's why y'all think Canadians can't be black and Jewish people can't be black so when you have someone who has both of those identities, you automatically register that there's no way they can be black, regardless of their actual racial makeup.

ironically, Ebro is the same as Drake with a black father and a white jewish mother.

If Drake is born in Memphis and not Toronto most of this gets avoided.

It's really this simple. If Drake was born in Memphis, no one would question his blackness. They always bring up him being Canadian and Jewish when they wanna question his blackness and that should tell you everything you need to know about how stupid Americans are when it comes to understanding identity in its full scope.

Lil Yachty is a very different artist and im sure that Yachty approached James Blake.

I mean, 21 said it himself that Future was always a bigger artist to him than Drake. Drake picks his features very strategically which is not a bad thing btw. It was a give and take relationship. Drake got access to an audience that wouldn't really listen to Drake like that and artists like Future got put on a bigger platform.

Personally, I wouldn't have heard any Drake music after 2018 if he wasnt on Future, Travis, Lil Baby and Young Thug albums. Honestly Nevermind was the first Drake album longer in my rotation in years.

Drake attracted a fan base that for years on here tried to police others people and artists blackness

Now that yall think Drakes card got pulled in front of the world by Kendrick it’s suddenly becomes “all black people aren’t a monolith”

Folks let Cole rock cuz he’s seemingly been himself from the jump, spoke on black issues etc

Drake doesn’t have to speak on black issues in his music if he doesn’t want to but he def benefits from standing next to street niggas and blending it into his aesthetics when we seen his come up

The fact that he attacks Kendrick for being a fake black power rapper when he himself only referenced our struggles in his diss song towards Meek “Charged Up” and hopped on a pop song with racist ass Camilla Cabello after the beef is going to make some people look at him funny lol

Nigga, stop. Y'all are the ones projecting those things on to Drake. He has ALWAYS identified as a black man. He's always had black friends. He's always had close proximity to black culture and his black side. Y'all decided none of those things were true simply because he was born and raised mostly in Toronto and he's Jewish. That's it.

If he was born an American, none of this s*** pops up and you know it.

And he never "used" anybody. That's another thing y'all made up out of nowhere to spin narratives about this man because y'all are miserable idiots.

I agree that its a US vs Canada thing. Personally, for me "Not Like Us" meant that "Other regions are not like the west coast" but in the end it could be another quintuple entendre
