Meanwhile the only person trying to stop Kendrick is the rollercoaster attendant because he is much too short to get on the ride
Alright, so here are my thoughts and theories. It's kinda long so ignore it if you don't wanna engage and please, be reasonable and don't troll. I'd like to read some of y'alls thoughts about things you might or might not agree with.
Again, these are just MY THOUGHTS/THEORIES.
I don't think Kendrick chose this moment in time to jump out and take direct shots at Drake just for the sake of it. I think everything leading up from the cultural reception/commercial performance of MMATBS to how every song he's been on since then (with the exception of Like That, of course) had zero impact whatsoever, all led him to choosing to go at Drake because he knows that's really the only other card he has left to play. I think he knows how thirsty people still are to see them go at it and he knows that's a surefire way to drum up some much-needed momentum heading into his next album, which I think will drop this summer (everything is a rollout, after all).
I think Kendrick's plan was was to drop the verse on Like That and have Drake jump out immediately with a response (he probably figured that'd be what Drake would do since that's how Drake reacted to Meek and Push) and then he'd hit him with what he had in the tuck, grab a quick W and have all that momentum leading up to the summer.
I don't think Kendrick saw Like That being this big commercially and I don't think he even needed it to be big commercially. I think he just needed all the noise and chaos it'd cause, much like his Control verse did, because he knew all of it would paint him in a good light and have his name thrown into discussions again.
I think Drake has a response ready, but after the Push situation, I think he's learned to let logic lead and not emotions when heading into potential battles with rappers. I think he believes Kendrick doesn't really want to battle but simply wants all the noise and chatter around his name, similar to what he did with his Control verse and so I don't think he feels any sort of pressure to jump out the window first. I think he's ready to do so only if Kendrick goes at him again, preferably with a diss track, so he's sure he is serious about things. I also think part of the reason behind his silence is because he's trying to figure out how deep this s*** goes and he's trying to see just how many people have turned against him and what the industry agenda is against him.
I think Drake will release an album this year where he addresses EVERYTHING and more.
cumdrip not really like that
but we getting the summary soon

the way spotify and the rest of them are trying to erase future & metro egging this s*** on is kinda weird lol
Nothing hard about having the smaller legacy

Crazy reach lol and arguably not even true
The youth is rediscovering MJ but Prince gets more love from grown people. No one is trying to hear finding neverland music.
MJ legacy is not one to be jealous of

Lol imagine taking the words of that bipolar schizophrenic serious.

Tonight.

They don't care about them two niggas. The dude pushing that agenda on Spotify is a Kendrick stan who wants to see a Drake vs. Kendrick battle happen. They didn't even do any of this s*** when Drake vs Meek or Drake vs Push happened.
He let SO MANY PEOPLE down

Well there's a discussion. You kinda have it but all wrong still. I think kendrick is free from that conceptual weight of his past work. He's ready to go not because he flopped as you are alluding but Cole and Drake started this. Being the egotistical guy he is, he wasn't having it with the exclusion. MMTBS did what he set it out to do. Like he or not, he was back in the timeline again and he did his way, something I'll always respect.
What he may never have expected was Cole bowing out, I think everybody is surprised by that. Kendrick featured on Beyonce just last year and boosted it to #34. Had keem win a Grammy. His pglang imprint won mad awards at cannes. Grammys. For a guy inactive as he is, breh is having a great career. I think he's just ready to go. His legacy is set except for putting Drake in his place

I partly disagree about the first paragraph of your theory.
I think the reason why Kendrick chose to go at Drake now was because he felt offended that Drake said it was him and Cole at the top on FPS. That triggered his competitive nature and he decided to go in.
I don't think it has much to do with the performance/reception of MMATBS or a rollout.
I think he got the reception he wanted from the rap game. He basically learned from Control about his power and influence.
I also think he feels more confident after his Big Sean diss leaked and ppl were praising him. Because now he knows he can go at these dudes without backlash or any problems.
Your other theory about Drake's response and how he views things seems accurate.
