GKMC HAS What?
TPAB I get thinking overrated or in the moment or whatever have you or not your taste even if I highly appreciate parts of all his album
but GKMC no replay value is insane you have to be 18-23 max
I’m a grandpa on this site bro don’t try to use age against me lol
If you were to shuffle your music right now, how many songs from GKMC would you not skip over? Let’s be real. Classic album that you don’t go back to.
Y’all really think Kendricks music gonna outlive Drakes?
Outside of rap, like in the ”real” world lol
I'm also curious about how Drake will navigate this stage of his career. He's ultra successful, prolly feeling betrayed by his peers etc.
If I can't relate to an artist personally eventually I turn it off unless they are truly saying something worth dying about cause as I said who wants the final album they drop or post humous saying the same s*** they were saying when alive

Anything drake done is better than mr moraleol
i like kendrick but i really don’t see this at all. tpab didn’t seem to have an effect on the culture at all. gkmc and damn seem more influential to me
Is music not art before its anything Else?
its crazy that this is even a question
Drake has changed a lot actually. If you listen to an album like NWTS and then listen to FATD, you hear how he's grown jaded, even immature. He used to be vulnerable and sincere, and got shat on at every chance for it. The Drake is fruity/soft meme went on forever and was still happening during Her Loss (21, can you do sum for meee). He's shelled up now, and some can see it as regressing. I think it's sad all around
Yeah I saw this. The issue is that you have to really listen to glean it and Drake should've worked harder to infused these vibes and really put it on full display for everyone to see. Since it's clear he feels that way in real life. It's very much another relatable feeling and that's what he's best at, relating to the everyday listener. It's why he shouldn't have cut I'm the problem from FATD, would've tied the album together nicely.
He has an easy alley Oop for his next album which is basically turn I'm the problem into a whole album. Lean more into his real life jadedness and how that's changed him from when he was a hopeful naive young rapper in So Far Gone. We saw glimpses of this in Away From Home.
This is rich coming from a Drake stan who has frequently used his sales and tours to defend his mid output lol
I've never used Drake's tours to defend his music. That's something completely different. As for his numbers, yes, when you're on that level and you consistently put up numbers, especially overtime with streaming consumption, it means that enough people think your music is worth their time to keep revisiting.
Cole content wise isn't even remotely close to Kendrick for me like I genuinely don't connect with it. Its not a slight to him I love his features but his albums dont do it for me personally
cole doesn’t hit for me on any level and i genuinely think he’s mediocre beyond that. he’s basically starbucks jazz and trying to shill him to me as a real jazz fan is pointless, ya know? he’s just mid to me he always has been always will be basically unless he finally puts out something truly great which i don’t think he will, he’s stuck to his schtick for more than a decade atp
he basically offers a lesser version of what kendrick offers and almost nothing outside of that, let alone when he tries to do a drake type vibe

On a saturday morning cleaning? A concept album and not skipping a song is actually really refreshing and therapeutic for me personally lol
If an album is sonically cohesive ( a lot of flying lotus albums, lupe, kendrick , Weeknd) then I can just press play, lift, clean, fold clothes, wash dishes
and take in the story and the meaning. I respect thats not for everyone
A bar or turn up situation yeah I am skipping around to the songs that sound best to the d**** I am on

Mr morale having the worst 2nd week drop off in hip hop history btw
Everyone came for the hype and left after first listen
Thread has somehow evolved to have less s***posting and more valid and in relatively good faith discussions wow
when folks genuinely put someone like future or any other random figure in a “big 3” type discussion that makes a hell of a lot more sense to me, because future to use an example actually offers something distinct between the two, whether you fw it or not. cole does not

I AM TIRED OF BEING GASLIGHTED TO THE IDEA THAT COLE HAS BEEN DROPPING GREAT FRONT TO BACK ALBUM AFTER GREAT FRONT TO BACK ALBUM WHEN SOME F***ING FTS ESPECIALLY ON HOOKS COULD SAVE HIM SO MUCH
ITS OKAY TO HAVE A WOMAN SINGER SING A HOOK MAN . ITS OKAY TO HAVE FEATURES WE DONT JUST WANT TO HEAR YOUR VOICE
YOUR VOICE ISNT THAT AMAZING AND YOUR FTS COULD TEACH YOU SOMETHING ABOUT INFLECTION

I try
a song can be good because its personal struggles you relate to that help you in your life
what do you relate to from Drake ? vs being an outsider in a life we will never live
Keyword in your sentence: it CAN be good
My problem is when people think a song is good just because it is personal or has a clear theme. That's not enough, youngins

But they don't wanna hear that. Meanwhile, GKMC/DAMN are still putting up numbers because enough people are still listening. Even TPAB performed better commercially because it's a great album just musically and was well out together and that's the "woke" Kendrick album btw. MMATBS missed the mark and it's okay to admit that.

Feels like he tried villain type era with FATD and it didn't fit him. Possibly may go sad boy era again

I get where you coming from. Me personally, I don't mind the same s*** if it is consistently entertaining or whatever it is I look for in that particular artist. If it's not something I can personally relate to, I can still find it interesting or even eye opening, so it's not an issue from my end
