You could use this exact same argument for the song u but it’s essential for tpab

u was never to that extent to me though. It’s slightly more balanced, there’s just enough musicality in the mix for u. It still feels like a song. Not only that but it fits the vibe of TPAB. I get that We Cry Together is pretty important conceptually to Morale but it just doesn’t succeed the way u did imo, it’s too left and unpleasant for me

What kills me is how em finally got on a alchemist beat and it’s the worst beat I’ve ever heard him make

I don't put that on Alc. Em likes to touch up every beat he gets. He changed up a Daringer beat for his verse.

Alch seriously needs to invest in himself and rap on his own beats. It's been tried, tested, and proven that Alchemist is f***ing nice as a rapper -- like, nicer than most dudes that only rap, and especially Eminem at this point lol.

Yeah because comparing him to a GOAT like Em is hate

Saying a good song of his is a waste of a beat and comparing it to a super trash song is

You’re not a slick as you might think either

I think it’s cute when he raps. Not in a good or bad way but he always sounds like “mom said you have to take me”

    Step Brothers hard af though

    Let’s make some things clear.

Stepdad is absolute dogshit and I do not consider it canon in Alchemist discog

We Cry Together is a good song with a great beat but that being said it has no place on any playlist of mine. And I worry if you are repeatedly spinning it.

Domestic dispute music should’ve ended with Domestic Violence by RZA. Nobody is touching that subject matter the way RZA did lol

He does sometimes, and he’s actually a great rapper

    I think he’s just insecure

Every time I go back and listen to Eminem I can never figure out why I ever considered him a goat

like im still eh on mr morale, but we cry together is another milestone record 4 kendrick in an already historic discography

    such a good album

im mixed on it, the songs i love are some of his best work by far, but i think the kodak thing on the album and some of the beats keep me from really loving the record

i feel like he could have gone really far with the cycles of abuse conversation with kodak on the album, but it just didnt feel fleshed out enough.

his interlude track is great, but silent hill eh for me.

i think it's less that i think the album is meh, i just feel like theres such a huge disparity from united in grief + the heart part 5 versus the rest of the record. but thats just me

baby keem and kodak interlude are amazing tracks because i feel like they get the closest to what the album is trying to say/coney

but the eckhart stuff is kinda wack to me. like i think pushing 4 niggas to get therapy is awesome, but using a celebrity self help guru to push that message is kindaaaaaa wack 2 me, respectfully

but its obvious that the respect kendrick has for him is genuine so i cant knock it.a lot of the album is talking about how his needs and expectations as a GOAT level rapper + father + having background he came from are gonna be radically different than any expectations his fans will have for him (and maybe expectations he has for himself)

its really the beats that keep me from loving the record. like im registering to Mr. Morale rn, just to make sure i wasn't hating, and yea me personally. i love kendricks delivery on every track, but it feels like such a step above than the beats he's rapping with. i appreciate their experimentally while working in the confines of "this is a major label commercial record" but i dont enjoy most of them.

like compare mr. morale to alright beat wise, and idk i just expect more from sounwave and pharrell. i respect that the production all across the record gives so much attention to kendrick, and all the rhythms cater to kendricks insane talent.

it may sound dumb but some of these verses i wanna hear acapella.

count me out is a beautiful record tho. father time is amazing.

bro the album really tackles the topic of mental health in such an honest way tbh its such a vulnerable album, its one of the most valuable pieces of work we got this year imo

united in grief as you pointed out is the best song and amazing but don’t let that make you miss out on other highlights from the album

-worldwide steppers, i think the comedic value of the writing of this song is overlooked but it deals in a concept he’s exploring of being like s*** if everybody is bad, why should he work on his problems, a concept he later disowns but i love the fact that the album goes through different thought processes as it goes makes it feel like a living breathing thing. Plus from a production standpoint I’d say its easily one of the most interesting beats Kendrick’s ever had.

-father time, classic kendrick a lay up for him but i think this song really gives a lot of context to why kendrick is the way he is and why men as a whole can be so prideful, great production too

    -count me/crown
these come as a 2 piece to me, i feel like count me out (really crazy song structurally) is what it feels like when a lot of emotion you have pent up finally comes out and crown is the immediate crash that comes from these realizations. I think Crown perfectly describes the dilemma Kendrick has been in since TPAB, where hes coming to terms with the fact that his music isnt gonna have the effect he wants it to. Beautifully produced track as well. I’d even say Silent Hill works in context here because it almost feels like wiping the tears off and trying to shake it off.

Savior-super highlight, amazing production, very confident rapping from kendrick and even though his savior complex is mainly self imposed i do think he genuinely dismantles the idea of idolization pretty well within the verses.

    Mr Morale/Mother I Sober
A writing highlight, the way that sexual abuse ties from the 2nd verse of Mr Morale to the entirety of Mother I Sober is super impressive to me and Mother I Sober is a jaw dropping song honestly on par with United In Grief for me.

Thats just kind of like a basic version of what I like so much about it and I still love songs like Rich Spirit and Die Hard too they make the listen a little less heavy and still fit the theme of the album. I’m not saying its his best album or anything but I definitely always wanna advocate the album to black men, because bro really captured a lot of s*** we be dealing with in a masterful way

I can feel that but theres lots of amazing production on the album imo

    United In Grief
    Worldwide Steppers
Father Time (especially the intro of this song)
    We Cry Together
    Count Me Out
    Crown
    Savior Interlude/Savior
    Mother I Sober

Also I don’t think he’s necessarily trying to push Eckhart onto other people, rather than encourage people to find a source that they can trust and confide in the way he does Eckhart throughout the album

  • Dec 20, 2022

We cry Together is amazing art, how is it being compared to that travesty, Stepdad
