I remember when I bumped the thread for this in music sxn with news in the heat of the beef and Kendrick Stans got mad at me for it like this isn’t something he’s choosing to do

my theory is superbowl trailer. kendrick is already part of that which ties in + although its been almost entirely silent promo wise, it is a paramount movie with a july 4th release date, they are hopefully are betting hugely on this

you think kendrick at this point careerwise wants to release a slavery comedy ?

he/dave read the script and signed on to produce it, they know the material. a dark comedy satire type movie about modern america's relationship with slavery doesn't seem totally out of kendrick/dave's wheelhouse.

i know the south park guys have a stench of cringe, edgy, OTT on them but my (cope) is that mixing Kendrick/Dave Free's tastes with scaled back but still south park guy stuff like book of mormon could be good.

we only know the top line synopsis but if theres people who can potentially pull off a transgressive satire about a guy who finds out his girlfriend is an ancestor of slave owners, kendrick, dave free, south park guys and vernon chatman (who wrote the script of this, worked a lot with chris rock and louis ck back in the day) could be a good team for it

If they have the budget to get a Super Bowl trailer that would be impressive

things have changed for kendrick since 2022, especially with the drake beef moment and the racial elements involved in that.

i think this will be shelved but we'll see if i'm wrong. the fact we haven't seen a pic or poster at all does not bode well for the release
