Yeah assuming her tweet is what made him go to a protest would mean he saw her tweet the same day which I doubt lol
Exactly

Not sure if it was a day or two days after, but a protest in his hometown. Not difficult for him to go to at all, he might have already been there

So you can come up with assumptions you have no proof of to support your argument all night but I can't?

critical media studies professor?

It's a tough call op. I had the same interpretation of MMBTS and also found his embrace of the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy type mindset pretty distasteful and a major retreat from his past aspirations
At the same idk man how much can artists really change s*** you know? Like if you look back at the really important moments in semi-recent US history (like civil rights/anti-war protests/black power etc.) a lot of the musicians we associate with those protest movements were frankly saying dumb as s*** lib stuff the entire time. Which makes sense bc they're full-time artists worried about their personal career and not actually political people. At best artists have helped political movements by publicly supporting controversial issues in a public way and making those issues acceptable to their fans that might be otherwise turned off to whatever cause. So if we take it back to Kendrick what could he actually have contributed to the 2020 moment? Anyone that would have been on the fence is definitely not going to be swayed by Kendrick saying something lol
He retreated on MMBTS but after some time to reflect I think it was the right thing to do even though I don't like the albums message. Imo he had a waaaaaay too inflated sense of what he'd be able to change in reality, and it's probably better that he chose to turn away from his messiah pathology
Quiet activism is very much a thing that extends past just financial contributions
Yeah but like what exactly tho lol
I'm not some typa notablebactivist but w the work i'm doing everybody n their mama would know i was doing it if i was kendrick lmao
People would find out eventually
And keeping it private is actually counterproductive to the cause anyway

how is keeping it private counterproductive to the cause if the point of the cause is to make it not about the person doing it?
BLM f***ed up in that regards (upon other things)

Because historically the most impactful activism done by celebrities habe always involves them using their public profile
And again it's pretty much impossible to do it in private if you're a celebrity i would still like to know an example that goes beyond donating

if we believe kendrick at his words, he's said he doesn't want to be involved in that though.
Some people get older and their entire mindset changes. As disappointing as it is. Noname said on namesake (and I'm hilariously paraphrasing) that "our ancestors worked hard for us to be in this position where we could reap the benefits of their labor so by all means go ahead...just make sure we bring some of those benefits back to the hood though."
@op wonder what your thoughts are today on this essay
I still stand behind it
Tbh i would cut him less slack for how he handled the noname situation
But i'm also more understanding of how he got to this point as i've gotten more involved in activism and politics people are annoying as f*** and a lot of activism in the west reflects the society and is very ego driven
I rubbed elbows with people that was "for the people" hit different
But he still coping and is presenting us with a false dichotomy, and he wouldn't have gotten to this place had he not gone into music with naivety about the impact it could have like he showed on hiiipower

And i hope he does bring it back to the hood
And i hope he's able to have this mindset switch without being judgemental on people who havent gone fully cynical like he has
