S*** just artistic expression so why judge it like its a political essay
Yall dont do the same for kanyes dumb ass views or drakes s***
Kanye or Drake last albums messages weren't particularly dense or complex tho
Amazing post op.
I agree with your sentiment that he felt emotionally overwhelmed to be the voice of the people, and as you said he had an idolization of Pac but then has the line “2pac dead gotta think for yourself” which I now realize may be directed at himself….fuck. Layer after layer after layer this f***ing album has
This too, Tupac was the main element of TPAB, he can’t run on that forever
don’t understand how niggas could get worked up over niggas talking just go to a diff thread
like if this was a sales thread it would make sense but how you expect niggas not to discuss politics on a thread title that starts with “kendrick’s misconception of social change”

that's why it's hilarious EVERYONE is coming/came at Noname when she's been like...the only rapper that has been doing things that you can actually see and feel as far as working towards societal change.
HER getting the smoke from all these rappers does nothing more than prove her original point right in the goddamn first place.
I love Mr. Morale but also Noname wasn't wrong about a damn thing.
Kendrick does take part in community initiatives, probably do better to focus solely on that than aspirations of changing the world.
that's what we should all be asking you bro lol
To be completely fair, yall talk about capitalism/communism and all the other "-isms" A LOT. Almost in every other thread and I think people get tired of it with all due respect

The thread is LITERALLY ABOUT THAT Lmaoo
OP great post.
Your last paragraph and how he decided to choose himself over the world - as if those were the only choices - made me think of his “I am all of you” post. Hearing the album and now reading this post from you makes that statement look really funny in the light.
In the case that his statement “I am all of you” were true, why would he ever have to make the choice between himself and the world
I don't agree. Kanye, Kendrick, and Cole say the same s*** most of the time.
I think Kendrick and Cole are very distant from Kanye in terms of their views on social change.
Both aren't very similar themselves imo but especially not Kanye, thats my perception tho.
The thread is LITERALLY ABOUT THAT Lmaoo
ik but I actually fw this thread
that line was 100% towards himself
i don’t wanna sound like an ass, but there’s no way it’s directed towards anyone but himself
feels like such a clap at himself
Fantastic a***ysis @op, glad you ended up posting it just gave it a read in the airport and about to spin MMBS back with some of your thoughts in mind.
I empathize with Kendrick to a degree. He came up as a kid and blew up so far so fast from Section.80 to GKMC. I can’t imagine having all that weight all of a sudden and millions looking to you like a savior and reckoning with the fact that you brought it on yourself, THEN reckoning with perceived failure. His life has been a whirlwind and I can’t blame him for wanting to take a step back and remove the pressure. Hell, I envy that, and I don’t have even a fraction of the platform he’s had. But especially in the social media age it can feel like silence is regression, and doing what’s best for yourself and your loved ones can feel like a betrayal of those you feel you could’ve helped by breaking that bread. It’s wildly hard to strike that balance and I hope this album release is cathartic to Kendrick as he finds his own balance.
Really good point about the need for MATERIAL conditions to improve. All these ppl got ideas, but it’s more than that
@op really good write up
here's a thought I had whilst reading it:
what happened to the interview where he talked about black people having to respect eachother more before asking police to respect us (Im paraphrasing but that was the sentiment)
he got backlash for that and I personally think he didn't learn anything from it since, TPAB has several lines where he suggests indiviluasm as the solution to systemic issues
idk how much he cares for that topic if being challenged on it once or twice makes him retreat, I think that's the dissapointing part for me (especially considering that this is HIP HOP)
no one was looking to him to be a savior, maybe people just react to the marketing/praise TPAB got due to some of it's content and thought he was a little more motivated than his peers to adress racism
on DAMN there's a line on the song ELEMENT:
" Last LP I tried to lift the black artists
But it's a difference between black artists and wack artists "
so yeah, he really been over it for a while now but still wants to give his opinions on s*** for instance
"on wordlwide steppers",
he was still "preachy" telling people what he thinks is wrong with them (take of your this and that, go listen to the song tbh )
then ending the song with
" Eight billion people on Earth, silent murderers
...
The noble person that goes to work and pray like they 'posed to?
Slaughter people too, your murder's just a bit slower "
idk what he means by that line but he seems to just hate people now
yes kdot it's the "noble person who goes to work" that is killing people now...... yuck
But they kinda did tho.. especially with the rainbow coalition yk
Im not denouncing all of nonames efforts ornanything either, just that the way she went about things in that case coulda been better, i've heard she does great work outside of that
touche
She does AMAZING work, which is why it's crazy it seems the entire rap world, a world full of abusers, pushers, dealers, rapists, and the glorification of all of this s***, jumped on Noname for one tweet versus niggas that got legit rape cases on them where the rape kit was confirmed including bite marks AND they plead guilty to em.
The day African American realize American has never been and WILL never be for them is the day real change happens. Like I said, even though this is all we know. We can’t possibly expect to have some type of hope for a country literally built off of the death and blood of our ancestors.
Built this country for $0 aint that crazy
Did he tho? Or did the media and the internet? I never heard of Kendrick Lamar running for president
Wym he put in the music

I think that Kendrick is realizing that he needs to get his house in order first, he's not resigning from playing a meaningful part in society altogether

I think 98% of us know that but there's not much we can do about it 😕
I feel like thats a common misconception about Kanye
I dont think his idea’s are incoherent or volatile, he’s a envangelical black conservative and pretty much has stances that fit that label on every possible issue
"Everyone should be a part of the good life. No more of this class system. You know, I was talking to Jared Kushner before they left office, and he was, like, “We are running a third of the land in America,” and I was, like, “But what are you doing with it?” It’s set up in a way that the Black community will never rise. People are just selling us d**** and selling us bad food, and media, and hate, and people are just not as happy as we could and will be. We are under capitalist rule, and it’s killing us.
It's time to change that."
Does that sound like your everyday black conservative evangelical lol? It doesn't absolve him for his awful takes but he is absolutely is incoherent ideologically
Mf goes from preaching liberation theology to prosperity gospel in the same sentence lmfao
