hope kendrick goes more psychedelic with this album
Psychedelic dark rock is what I want.
I mean, this is a Kanye forum and we've watched thousands of his stans pretend his output the last 3 years was good so I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion
this has been both drake and kanye stans though...
DAMN wasn’t a classic, it was ok, 6-7/10
It was 7.5-8/10
The narrative that it was radio bait done poorly is ridiculous. The only tracks that had a pop feel to them were LOYALTY, LOVE AND GOD. The rest either had a mainstream hip-hop feel to them or were more on the experimental tip like YAH and PRIDE.
You may not have liked it subjectively, but that was the direction he needed to go in after TPAB. Now that he got that out of his system, he can go and make another divisive classic that splits people right down the middle as they complain that they wanted something more accessible.

TPAB was a very good album, but not a classic imo

ELEMENT didn’t have a Pop feel? HUMBLE wasn’t radio rap? Those 5 songs ruin the album for me for real, like the sequencing. I love DNA, XXX, FEAR and LUST, they are gems. FEEL and DUCKWORTH are good, the other songs are eh or bad for me. It wasn’t a bad album by any means but it wasn’t a masterpiece either, album is way overhyped IMO but music is subjective so I can’t criticize, this is just my opinion. I love GKMC, TPAB and UU, I want Kendrick to go on that direction for the next album or even more left field/experimental.
I’m not against to Kendrick doing mainstream music btw, I love the radio songs on GKMC, I just dislike the DAMN pop sound, It doesn’t suit Kendrick at all, he sounds way better when he does songs like Poetic Justice, BDKMV, Swimming Pools, Pray for Me, Kings Dead etc

As i said, the rest of the album has a mainstream hip-hop feel, which ELEMENT AND HUMBLE fall under. Unlike you though, I love ELEMENT. I love all the songs on DAMN except for YAH, HUMBLE and GOD.
He's going to go into a more experimental direction on his next album. He has a track record of going into vastly different direction from the previous album. He knows DAMN had its moment and now its time to do something different. If he does do another DAMN, I will be very dissapointed because hes one of the few mainstream hip-hop artists today who still surprises me.
How do you dislike the sonic feel of alot of DAMN though, but like some of the s*** from Black Panther? Black Panther to me felt like an extension of DAMN at times. And his delivery on both albums sounds the same to me. Even has poppy s*** like All The Stars and Big Shot. Whats the big difference between DAMN and the Black Panther OST?

I didn’t f*** too much with BP soundtrack either, I mentioned those two songs because they were mainstream singles. I wasn’t a big fan of those two singles tbh but I prefer that style than DAMN style. I don’t like when Kendrick sings the hook with those goofy vocal inflections, I like him rapping or doing more dark s*** for his mainstream sound. Sorry if I’m not clear I really don’t know how to explain it correctly, I just don’t like Kendrick doing happy poppy music, it doesn’t suit him, it comes off as forced (ELEMENT hook is a good example, I find it very goofy sounding, GOD, LOYALTY and LOVE too)
damn you think so? in what aspect, content wise?
i don't find it hard to believe. kendrick is this generation's rap champion, people look at you weird if you don't love him as much as they do. he's very skilled at what he does and the musicians he has crafting with him are true to this s***.
he just minds his business and gives us good raps
Content wise and musically speaking, his voices and flows
Kendrick's in my personal top 10 but DAMN to me is a textbook definition of a "forced classic."
There's nothing that DAMN does better than GKMC and TPAB. Kendrick's rapping, lyricism, storytelling, and concept songs were executed much better in those albums. And GKMC's radio songs aged better than DAMN's which is why Money Trees blew up on TikTok while Humble didn't.
That being said, there's definitely some cap being said here. Someone said TPAB couldn't be panned because of its content.
Niggas forgot that Nas tried to put out his own TPAB back in 08 called Untitled and it was panned by critics big time. His album with Damian Marley which was conscious was panned too. Also, damn near every J Cole album is panned compared to Kendrick's.
So, why didn't it work for Nas and Cole like it did for Kendrick?
