The communists started the revolution the whole thing was a communist revolution till the ayatollahs hijacked it with the help of the Brits. Khomeini promised the communists that they will be a part of the new government and then lined em up on the roof of a high school and ordered the shooting squads to bada bing bada boom
I mean I guess he knew they would do the same to him and his crew. After all both systems are different sides of the same coin. Meaning the first order of business is to eliminate those who think differently and don't accept the governing idealogy

It’s because they need something to root for. It’s annoying because when you bring up that you can hate America’s government and their enemies at the same time, they’ll claim to agree, but then make every effort to defend or downplay said enemies by bringing up America’s shortcomings
