Thought it was going to be May
Def pushed it back prob to get in awards season. They had this on Apple TV+ like it was actually coming in a couple months
This release has dragged heavily but glad there's at least a date. I read the book in 2020 thinking this was coming out in 2021 lol

You crazy for reading the book first
Way rather let Marty lay it on me and check the book out after if I'm still interested

how's the book? does it play like a thriller with twists?
I feel like I’ve been seeing the one, only screenshot from this film for like 5 years. Reaching the whale levels

Yeah It's a non-fiction/historical investigation written kinda like a thriller. There's a lot to learn especially with the Osage tribe's oil riches and how criminal investigations worked at its early stage in the U.S.. This was some of the FBI's first ever homicide cases and figures like J Edgar Hoover at age 29 were around. It's just interesting cus of how different things were
Whether to actually read it before watching? Idk... I don't think you can go wrong with this one particularly but I get what @Elric said above about Scorsese adaptations
not mad at this (if they have indeed been cut out). not going to miss these actors in this type of movie tbh.

Lithgow one of the most underrated and versatile actors out there
really cautiously anticipating this bordering on pessimistic. Hollywood has a long established habit of profiting from Indigenous trauma stories and death, and thats my biggest apprehension going into this.
If this just turns out to be another Indigenous trauma-porn showcase, no matter how "good" it is, i wont f*** with it. Does anybody know of the level of involvement Indigenous people / people from the Nation today had in the writing of this?
anyway, id love to walk away from this feeling like it did a good thing, im just pessimistic
Eh, it's fine

i'm not a lithgow hater. he's a good actor. do I need him in a scorsese movie set in the 1920s? no.
i mean look obviously we haven't seen his scenes to know if he was really good in this or not that great. i just dont mind if these guys got cut in editing. doesn't effect my anticipation of this film one bit.

Seems to be written by a stupid f***ing white man but Marty not one of those guys;
"On July 26, 2019, Scorsese traveled to the Osage Nation in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to meet with Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear to discuss how the Osage Nation could be involved with the film's production"
Definitely know what you mean but Marty more respectful than that. He spends crucial time that he could be be using to make his own movies to track down and restore films representing people from every corner of the globe basically. The story does seem to involve first nations trauma though and I don't blame you for being over it.

Didn’t they rewrite the whole script after Leo having more meetings with the Osage people?
just remembered jason isbell has a roll in this lol.
can't wait tho. feels like it's been ages since irishman

Yep pretty sure they reworked the thing after talks (that was reported atleast)
For all I know that Marty doesn't do that s***e.
This s*** ain’t done???? How y’all removing folks

I believe the rumor was Martin had a whole movie but then spent time around Indigenous people, or the family, and it changed his whole outlook? I could be remembering wrong

100% this. Marty is prolly one of the only guys I’d trust to tell stories of other cultures. He has too much respect for the art to do half ass research. And easily one of the most knowledgeable when it comes to films of other cultures.

i would just like to see better Indigenous representation in mainstream movies. Things produced by and written by Indigenous peoples who are telling their story from a point of resilience, resistance, and thriving, because these stories exist and need to be heard. the "dead *ndian" trope is tiresome.
Again, i hope this film proves to be not that. and sounds like yall are saying Scorsese did spend some time with the people of the Nation, so i hope im pleasantly surprised.

100% fam but yeah I’m just going off of what I heard, I wouldn’t put it pass Marty tho.
Curious of how you feel about the show Reservation Dogs
