Opening tracking shot
CGI DeNiro curb stomp
And then just… the third act?
CGI DeNiro stomp,
Some scene where De Niro's car broke down
Pacino getting mad at some (Italian) guy at a table
Pesci and De Niro in jail in the end
And I remember seeing Jesse Plemons
Once Upon a Time in Scorsese's America
3:54:00 is f***ing crazy. Can we not pretend it isn’t?
I loved Irishman in its entirety but like I’m sure there was a way for that movie to be shorter without losing anything meaningful
Irishman was super long mid
Irishman was super long mid
Honestly
I felt that way the first couple times watching it. For me I was expecting another Goodfellas/Casino/WOWS fast paced epic but this was an entirely different beast. I’ve come to grow fond of it and find it just as quotable as the movies I just mentioned
Kinda blows my mind we have a director as legendary and undeniable as Scorsese, not only still alive, but still actively working and releasing films (that are actually good-great too).
It’s just so rare
Clint Eastwood too.

Same length as Seven Samurai
re-watched the Irishman the other day (or rather over the course of several days). I think it's great that Scorsese gets such a huge budget, because I love his works and I'm in favor of giving big budgets to projects like this as opposed to only giving big budgets to Marvel movies and action movie.
that said, I can't help but notice that the movie FEELS like it has an inflated budget. for example, I love Herc from The Wire in The Irishman (Domenick Lombardozzi). He's great in this as a mafia boss. the way he speaks is perfect for the role. but did Marty really need to put him in makeup for 4 hours to play a 70 year old mob boss? If I'm a financier, I'm like can't you just hire an older actor given that we're already doing aging tactics on De Niro and Pesci?
and there are a lot of elaborate shots in Irishman that look nice but don't seem necessary.
and while I think the movie is good enough to earn its long runtime, 10-20 minutes could have very easily been trimmed.
the same thing seems to be happening with KOTFM based on the reported runtime and budget.
I'm not trying to complain because again why would I care that they give one of my favorite directors so much money to make a project? but I also feel he could easily make these dramas in a much less expensive way. he's going all out with his budget in his elder years. it's just kinda funny.
dude earned it though. he can get the studios to give him what he wants and he's using that power for his artistic vision.
New Picture
Another one
Another classic
