$7.6 trillion in US debt needs to be refinanced by year end. As we all know, interest rates are still extremely high. What do you do? Introduce tariffs to the market. Investors sell out of stocks and into bonds looking for a safe return, causing long term treasury rates to decrease. The 10 year yield has fallen 50 basis points since the start of this correction. We refinance trillions of dollars in debt at lower rates, saving god knows how much on interest payments.

1: introduce economic uncertainty
2: artificially create a market correction to manipulate yields
3: refinance the bulk of the national deficit at a significantly lower rate

Theyll never admit theyve purposefully manipulated the market to kill long term treasury yields, but maybe ill look like a genius when the tariffs are lifted the day after we refinance our debt
