You, as the parent, putting violence on them makes them see violence as a valid means of exerting control

  • Apr 10, 2022

the a***ogy i like to use is this: why do we discipline kids the way a pimp breaks his hoes?

also before anyone says otherwise in an appeal to tradition, in both black and latino communities, the practice did originate from european colonialism

So what yall gonna do if your kid does some REAL BAD S***

Take things away, make them do extra chores, ground them, etc.

If you’re kid doing s*** that needs worse than that they need some type of counseling or behavioral therapy.

Prolly gonna be a hard labor punishment type parent

Timeout, grounding, positive reinforcement (make them earn rewards for good behavior), giving them actual consequences other than physical violence (which teaches them that when they make someone mad they deserve to be hit and allows them to become victims of abuse later in life).

U can do all this including physical discipline

Guarantee nobody in here talking about hitting kids actually has kids. I’d kill myself before I’d lay a finger on my daughters, no matter what they did.

    They said they have kids

I feel bad for them it's only one bad day until they start getting smacked

It teaches them that violence is an acceptable method of expressing love and f***s their heads for the rest of their lives.

It is true. Anything that physical violence achieves can be achieved using a well principled and non-violent move forward

Violence is just the result of lazy, careless, and controlling parenting. There’s no thought out into the long term relationship between the parent and child

  • Apr 10, 2022

corporal punishment gets short-term results due to enacting physical violence as a means to an end, but long-term, it may hurt the child in non-physical ways

yes. i grew up getting hit as a kid, and i can see how it contributed to my current struggles with mental health

i have a good relationship with my parents, but that type of treatment in my formative years definitely left an impact and a unresolved tension that wasn’t dealt with for years with them
