We try to release a single every month and got lucky honestly.. we distribute through United Masters and they helped place us in NBA 2K last year .. I think that had a lot to do with it

Whats the pros vs another like Distrokid, CDbaby etc?

Mainly the sync opportunities for TV, movies, video games, etc. Still keep 100% of the royalties and masters for $50/year. Everyone is in a different situation but it works for us
52000 monthly listeners
280 followers
he's on a spotify editorial playlist though. this is what happens when you first get added, the followers slowly trickle in as people check the playlist out and find you.
only like some small % of people who hear the track are gonna actually care enough to check out the artist page and give a follow but every one of those people who plays the track will count as a monthly listener. so this ratio is pretty normal for a new artist who got added to an editorial for the first time

lmao forreal like spotify followers are one of the hardest things to build up, and monthly listeners are a notoriously fickle stat. but OP's song is on a very legitimate spotify editorial which means he's on the right path

that’s true, heard it’s a random process but I heard once you’re in one then they’ll add you to more editorials like nothing

nah its not random honestly. there are a few different ways to do it (get on good blogs that spotify curators read, go viral somewhere or have your song be somewhere, be signed, have a plugged in manager or distributor, etc) but from OP's point it sounds like it was aided by the distributor (united masters) + being in 2k potentially which is dope
but yea once you make one they have an eye on you, so when you submit your next song as long as the quality stays up there's a great chance it'll get playlisted again. that's what happened for me, it's really a slow, consistent build at least in my experience
