    The danish GOAT

His movie “ The Five Obstructions” with Jørgen Leth is great mix between documentary and art film.
    Breaking The Waves hits hard
Anti-Christ is my fav from him

Well that doesn't suprise me, they both seem wayyyy too full of themselves. Why do they hate each other?

And yes i've seen Valhalla Rising, i liked it but for now i prefer Drive, Neon Demon & OGF

I want to check out his tv show so bad but i haven't found the time yet

Refn didn't like Trier's nazi speech

Trier tried to sleep with Refn's wife

Refn's dad edited a bunch of von Trier works

    etc..

Oh yeah that nazi speech was a bad look for sure

How does Refns dad editing for Von Trier play into all of this though? Did his father have bad experiences working with LVT also?

He is the greatest director of all time for me. Self proclaimed too.indiewire.com/2009/05/von-trier-i-am-the-best-film-director-in-the-world-70442

Dogville is up there with the best films ever made. Think Ari Aster also said in an interview that Midsommer was inspired by dogville, for the ari aster fans. LVTs films for me keep me glued to the screen. I find the characters in his films (specifically dogville, nymphomaniac and htjb)fascinating. A film like Melancholia that uses a literal apocalypse to portray depression just goes to show that you can never run out of ideas.

I think his films has a fine balance between being direct and obscure and I think that's why I like him.

    Lars called his dad gay

If you have time watch all 8 parts of this interview with Refn, he talks about and about Lars allot.
The interview was made just before Valhalla Rising, when everyone thought Refn was a failure and a goner

Why did people think he was a failure back then? Lmao he just came off Bronson which was pretty well received in contrast to some of his other work

Then maybe I am remembering wrong, and the interview was just before Bronson.

If you watch all 8 parts you will know why people in Denmark viewed him as a failure. His movies were flopping, he had gone bankrupt and pissed of allot of people in the movie industry.

I recommend watching all 8 parts of the interview, it’s really really good.
I don’t wanna spoil what happens during the 8 interviews but it is a very good watch

I have a feeling most characters in his films are pretentious as f***.

Haven't watched his films in like a decade. Might need to revisit sometime soon.

Some were a little boring honestly. (I was 14, maybe not mature enough yet for, say, Melancholia to thematically transfer to me properly.)

But watching Dancer in the Dark for the first time via a DVD from the library in my childhood bedroom at 5:00 in the afternoon after getting out of high school was one of the most affecting cinematic experiences I've ever had.
