you living my current aspiration
I know I have to lock back in on my piano / music theory in order to get where i need to be but sometimes music is like the last thing I'm trying to work on, especially when I'm not as good as I wanna be
but such is life, I gotta embrace the challenge!
nowadays when you start working, how long do you think it takes on average from inception of the idea to completion to the point you're pleased with it?

second one is hard af first is rly close jus needs different drum pattern with the 808s/kick, something simple

Thank u thank u the first one is like way more dance music than it is hip hop kinda I’m tryna keep it danceable fusion thing
How do u think I could fix that up like just have the 808 and kick hit on the same beat more or is it offbeat or do u think a dif rhythm would be better? I kinda want it to sound like a cocophony of rhythms still I assume ur talking ab burn it babe

what worked best for me is using your DAWs built in scale function, at least that helps you practice what sounds good w/o having go thru the incorrect keys.
ive only been taking guitar lessons for about a year despite buying my first guitar at the start of the pandemic lol (i still played around w/ it here n there).
music theory wise, i def read up on it and understood it at a basic level. eventually, you just build up music. theory knowledge after making so many beats, esp if youre watching tutorials n they might drop a nugget here n there. or they go over certain type of progressions and chords and voicings in order to achieve a certain sound. kinda just sticks with you.
i think maybe it takes me around 30min-1hr nowadays to get the idea going. the hardest part is getting a good foundation going but once i have a melody or progression or drum pattern (or even a sample flip) that im happy with then the magic starts to happen. after that, i do spend around half a day or a full day, treating it like a sculpture.
but yeah just try to make music at least everyday. during late 2019 and then 2020-2021 i was prob making beats every single day. 2022 slowed down, 2023 kinda picked it up again. 2024 i got back into it but def had dry spell months. i feel like everything was brewing during those 5 years and now i feel competent in my skills.

Its all preference, the only thing that id say u gotta fix is the 808 hits on a kinda weird note id switch it to root note of the beat, the pattern is fine but if u want u can try using a more like generic 808/kick pattern

Ahh bet gotchu I’ll try that and send to u I lowk need a version like that too for if I want someone to rap on it instead of being its own song, would u say that for both halves? Also for the 808 note yea fs I’ll def fix that

U can definitely just change the first half an keep the second same i think thats hard

thank you for the advice
i definitely need to get like you man, in terms of Consistency and study
at one point in like 2020-early 2021 I was making beats everyday and feeling like I had hit a certain stride but different life stuff just got me in a funk
now I'm getting back on the wagon but its hard to accept / cope with the fact that I kinda fell off!
listening to the stuff I used to make, even last year, I just feel like it was considerably better
but maybe its just that I was having more fun & immersed in the process
this first one I made last year & while it's nothing crazy, in my mind, it feels complete and at least somewhat cohesive

vs this from earlier in October, it's cool & all but feels very piecemeal & not like one composition.. I also think my old choice of drum sounds used to hit way harder

yea i like to tell myself that i cant make the s*** i made years ago. sometimes i feel like i was more "creative" or "experimental" back then and that is okay. since lately, i'm more focused on "pop" music, arrangement, songwriting, etc..
what i like to do a lot of the songs is use reference tracks, like a lot of them and just combine some structure or ethos i appreciate. it helps things feel more cohesive to me. a lot of my stuff be pulling from all kinds of places but since i blend it with my own take and my own sound, it becomes unique to me. like that parannoul inspired beat i posted above, i straight up took the drums from drake best i ever had, lol.
i like what you posted. def keep making beats, you got this. youll become better than you were before.
