Are Beatles stans gonna kill the 60s thread? Sounds like it.
I am on the anti-Beatles squad. Who else is with me

They say kpop stans are nuts. Dudes actually called in death threats at Dylan shows cause he brought out some amps
what did you mean by "generic sounds dominating the charts" in the 70s? were those sounds non melodic?
im willing to have a conversation but not if you just try to copy and paste stuff that doesnt fit what youre saying
Generic sounds meaning corporate rock. I wouldn’t call much of that stuff melodic in the same way. It’s simple and repetitive but doesn’t really capture the bright colorful melodicism of the 60’s. Like even darker sounding music in the 60’s had a particular emphases on melody that I don’t hear as much in what’s going on in the 70’s. Like if you could somehow weigh melody and weigh it against other decades, I’m confident it would come out as the lowest. It’s kind of an ineffable thing, I can’t really put my finger on it. It’s just a feeling.
not contrarian to post an honest list. Don't think I have ever voted Beatles
Theres a 99% I didnt either last time, but I'm gonna jam more Beatles soon. Just to finally hear it all.
Country
Tbh besides The Hag I need to dust up on some 60's country. Just glancing at some of my favs its mostly jazz/soul s*** even over most rock

I did everything from Help! to Abbey Road recently. If any BEatles do make my list, it would be Abbey Road.

i cant really put one list over the other in terms of how melodic it is, theyre all melodic af. trying to see what you're saying with the "corporate rock" kind of stuff but I don't see more of that in the 70s compared to the 80s, like some of those in the 80s list are exactly what Id think you mean by that
oh yeah Dark side of the moon didnt make this list, but are we surprised by that

It’s just an opinion though. Other than Fleetwood Mac and Elton John I don’t think much of that is very melodic. I personally just don’t think the 70’s generally is very melodic in the way I particularly enjoy. A lot of bands that became popular in the 80’s seemed to agree hence why I referred to the emergence of New Wave.
