I discovered this album late as hell man, I’d say sometime in like 2005-2006. I always knew it was considered a classic but nobody around me ever played Wu-Tang like that outside of the obvious hits.

This is probably my favorite Wu album, if it’s not my favorite it’s definitely second. Everything about this s*** is classic as f***. I wish I grew up in New York, I feel like I’d be a completely different person

Every time I revisit Liquid Swords it makes me feel like this was the point when RZA ascended to the next level. I almost wish he was locked in this zone forever but I don't wanna pigeonhole anyone, no matter how beautiful the finishing touches are. I'm using 6 beats from Liquid Swords in the tournament.

That's true but only to a certain extent. I also believe that you can enjoy music out of context more than others that experienced it and the rollout in real time. I just brought up in the It Was Written thread that I love that album because I didn't go in expecting it to be Illmatic 2 like others at the time. There's music that I enjoy from the past that wasn't hot or popular but over time they received the attention and love they always deserved.

i know what you mean. anything non hip hop that i ever consumed, i didn't have any context for. it just sounded nice to me, for whatever primal reason.

i think i shouldn't speak in universal truths, everyone experiences s*** differently. i should say, that sometimes with me, i like to know the story. what were the conversations that were happening that lead to great albums, why was that particular thing great etc.

i've been interested in A Tribe Called Quest for ages lol, 10+ years now lol but i really wanna know why they are so praised, it felt kinda cheap to listen to them just for the sake of.

like what was going on for people to say "yo, these are the guys, it's them". who were the other guys and what were they doing, that Q Tip and em got anointed and not them. it's important to me to not rush that answer, i'mma build it bit by bit. it'll come to me.

like Bonita Applebum did. shoutout @saveme

I just hope other people know about LS, I swear these threads are the only times I see music like this brought up which is why I be in here heavy lol

Let it come to you organically, that’s the best way

Have you ever gone through Ghostface discography?

This is one of my favorite songs of all time, no hyperbole. This song means everything to me. I’m sure you’ve heard it but on the off chance that you haven’t, enjoy it

Don't think so hard about it. Just relax and let the music hit you. It's going to connect eventually. Forget about ATCQ, just let the Wu heal you

A question I have is like I’m repping a production duo. Does their solo work count? Or can I only put up tracks they did together?

Everyone but Dre and ye can do whatever they want.

Ye and Dre are handicapped to make s*** more fair.

Also In a perfect world each round would be just instrumentals to really hear what they did.

But I doubt all that s*** is available.
Reps that have the instrumentals can post both song and the instrumental though.

Hot take: Kanye really isn't more talented than half the dudes in this

Yeah, I mean if we really wanted to make it all about the actual production, ideally you would be able to play untitled versions of all tracks, that way voters would actually have to listen before deciding. People just gonna vote for the overall song they know or like more otherwise anyway

    RocMarci

    Alchemist isn’t in ???

There is so much talent that some legendary producers are bound to miss

Like Sunny Digital, Southside or 808 Mafia arent there too

But that makes it more interesting if there is a second tournament one day

i love these niggas, they're nerds lol, but in the best way, you gotta be nerds to achieve the s*** that they did.

i got a friend who keeps insisting i listen to them, known him from way back in middle school. dude's refused to evolve with the times music wise but i love him for that, he acts as a balance to me who always wants to shapeshift and evolve.

he put me on this track from Wu Massacre, which really isn't Wu but f*** it is my favorite Wu song:
