Well for reasons I simply do not understand Alchemist isn’t in this
And you never know how this could be played, maybe some people click play on something like I posted and start profusely Harlem shaking and click like on it by accident and it wins

Alchemist isn’t in ???
i think music exists in contexts, and like, a lot of the time, especially with old school music, if you miss the context of why something was great, you don't really get to appreciate it.
like, what was considered trash at the time? what was hip? why were people doing what they did, i think having those questions answered infinitely increases the enjoyment of music.
it's why i think kids like the music they like, they're currently existing in the context. but when looking back, that context often gets lost in high praise or ridicule or disdain.
i try my best, i really do, to not just go back for the sake of going back, but to try and find the context, it means i miss out on a lot sure, but it also means whatever i do end up finding, sticks.
That's true but only to a certain extent. I also believe that you can enjoy music out of context more than others that experienced it and the rollout in real time. I just brought up in the It Was Written thread that I love that album because I didn't go in expecting it to be Illmatic 2 like others at the time. There's music that I enjoy from the past that wasn't hot or popular but over time they received the attention and love they always deserved.

Alchemist doesn’t have too many hits tbh, he’s not that great in VZ format

This aged amazingly. I never underestimate you or whoever I'm facing because I know the Ruff Ryders have a lot in store for Rocafella. Swizz is underrated nowadays.

neither does Nujabes but alas
It’s not about hits anyways, I’m hoping people are going to be voting strictly on production and not the vocals. The way it should be to me anyway.

Should that be a rule? Just instrumentals?

Swizz discography is absolute f***ing bananas man. Whoever has him is genuinely sitting on so many crazy ass abstract type beats it’s insane. I used to be a Swizz stan around this time so every time I bought a CD and read the booklet and saw he had production on an album I immediately knew it was gonna be a fun time

Nah, it should be voting on the whole song. Production can be a lot about working with the artist to find something that fits and tailoring it to them.

I brought it up sometime back in the thread but I’m not sure if a lot of the instrumentals will be on youtube.
I’m not surprised this is on YouTube because it’s an iconic beat but it’s gonna be hit and miss. I can’t find the Bang Bang Boom instrumental on YouTube
Gonna be interesting lol
The term hits is f***ing stupid
One of Dilla's best beats @saveme

By hits, I just mean songs most people recognize. Alchemist discography not as widely popular so he will just auto-lose to anyone who’s is

Well I agree to a certain extent considering I’m repping Diddy
I just thought the idea around this was the production and not the actual song, but I’m not the one making the rules so take what I said with a grain of salt

!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nt3C_XC5qLkI love this damn album man, I honestly don’t even remember Dilla producing on this
Gonna look up the production credits real quick

People gonna vote how they vote anyway, regardless of rules
A question I have is like I’m repping a production duo. Does their solo work count? Or can I only put up tracks they did together?
I forgot all about this god damn amazing ass f***ing song haven’t listened to this in soooooo long
And Dilla had 3 production credits on this album
Dilla the best man
@saveme Thank god I'm reppin RZA.

!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T17YRtYcvIsI discovered this album late as hell man, I’d say sometime in like 2005-2006. I always knew it was considered a classic but nobody around me ever played Wu-Tang like that outside of the obvious hits.
This is probably my favorite Wu album, if it’s not my favorite it’s definitely second. Everything about this s*** is classic as f***. I wish I grew up in New York, I feel like I’d be a completely different person
Yo, I'm not caught up in politics
I'm no black activist on a so-called scholar's d***
What a way to start a song
