i said the midwest instead of just chicago because Detroit/Flint has been on a crazy run since 2020 & Ohio got hella rappers who are huge on Soundcloud too.

I said Chicago because of how prominent drill music has been for the past decade.

First, I’d like to say RIP Nip and Drakeo

But after seeing Tyler, Vince, and Kendrick all drop gems, I must say that LA rap reigns over everybody else…more specifically cities as prominent as Chicago and Atlanta (in terms of producing high quality rap music). I’d go as far as to say that LA should be the mecca in rap music.

Their s*** isn’t one dimensional and it’s literally a pool of different — but the same time — great rappers/rap artists.

    • Roddy (despite him dropping a mid album, he’s still top 5 young rappers rn)
    • D Smoke
    • Dom K
    • 03 Greedo
    • Westside Boogie
    • G Perico
    • Kalan.FrFr
    • 1TakeJay
    • Villain Park

And the list continues. It’s so baffling to see LA not get the respect they deserve among the rap community.

    This

The closest to it i enjoyed were the tracks on the black panther album and FM Vince staples but even then

I don’t think it’s about whether or not they make “LA” music. They’re from the community and claim it to this day.

you have the drill scene (chief keef, king louie, lil jay etc) and the jazzy rap scene( chance the rapper, vic mensa, saba, mick jenkins) that both originated from the chi. The latter influenced a whole bunch of artists- that probably wouldnt attribute their sound to that scene nowadays- such as earth gang, JID etc. so no, they both influencd seperate sounds and didnt take away from the cities spotlight at the height of their popularity
