With everybody being able to voice their opinion online, more than ever I notice ppl being super inconsistent with their morals.
Whether it’s cancelling entertainers, consuming products, supporting movements, philosphy, whatever.
It’s like people refuse to put it in the mental effort to be thorough... when really that’s easier and less taxing than being a flip flopping ass b****
What’s your take on this and do you recognize double standards within yourself?
I mostly keep to what i am
But im also not stupid enough to think everything i do or think is right & true all the time lol
Being so stuck one way is worst than a "flip flopper".
That’s because almost everyone is performing on social media. Real life is divided into scales (social, temporal, spatial etc.) but on the Internet, these degrees of separation are blurred: an average Joe from Thailand can get into an argument with a famous American politician on Twitter or “cancel” a British celebrity. The flow of information is constant and expanding so if you want to get some attention - and all those platforms are engineered to make you crave for attention - you have to play by the rules.
In other words, you have to become a virtue signaling scumbag.
This constant stream of informations makes you apathetic: Palestinians murdered can get the same amount of attention as a rapper arrested because he robbed another rapper. But the attention you want from people on social media must be positive so you have to pretend that you care even if you don’t. And most of the time, you don’t even realize it: seeing people commenting and sharing your posts leads you to think that you’re truly a virtuous person.

This sounds like some real over blown s*** lol & you do know "cancel culture" is only one side & group of the socials? You can easily be part of a social network without all of that. Thats like the idiots off of tiktok that hate blindly it that think tiktok is only dances & "challenges".
Most users on socials arent even that active or that popular & mostly passive lol. Statistics by the companies themselves.
You sound hurt tbh.

“You sound hurt”? Is that supposed to be a valid argument or a relevant response? No really, think about that: do you realize how stupid that sounds? I’m giving my take on this thread, I provide examples and you’re trying to infer my state of mind from a post on ktt2?
Look at the f***ing trends on Twitter: the corporate marketing ploys get the same amount of attention as a shooting at the mall. Everything is on the same level. People will post a black square for George Floyd to signal to their followers that they care and post a picture of their food the next day. Most people aren’t silent on social media because the whole point of social media is interaction. When you like a tweet or a picture on Instagram, you’re not being silent, whether you like it or not: you’re giving your opinion and you’re also providing attention to someone else.
You don’t have to be popular to be apart of that whole stream of information, all it takes is to participate.

Great point. It’s not genuine in the first place.
I remember all the people being angry (online) at others for not posting BLM related stuff last year.
All of them are quiet as f*** about Palestine. As a black muslim, s*** really stupefied me.
Last year I wanted to put a friend onto songs from DLTP that were dope. He told me that he canceled Drake bc of the grooming rumors.
It also came up that he canceled CB AND Rihanna for that fight they got into as teens. He said both were toxic for that and he didn't want to give them any attention.
Asked why CB and Rihanna deserved to be canceled for their fight but he shouldn't be canceled for a fight he got into with a girl way back when we were in school. He got heated and said that was totally different (don't remember why).
I circled back to Drake and just asked him how many people in his life would look at him differently forever if someone made up some completely false but salacious rumors about him. He got even more heated and stopped hitting me up for a good 7 months so I finally deleted him from my socials and kept it pushing.
We had been friends since elementary school and would hit each other up several times a week and hangout every so often up until then smh. Oh well tbh
Everything is performative now. It’s hard to stay consistent in your beliefs when they aren’t even your own

Sounds like guy lacked serious critical thinking skills and you dodged a cannonball

The thing is he's smart af overall. Great tech job, bought a nice house in his 20s, most successful person in his family (I knew his family pretty well), knows what he wants out of life and implements what it takes to be that person, etc.
But having the same standards he applies to others applied to him had him fuming. S*** sucks too bc I realized how quick he'd turn on me if PR ever made that more convenient for him than remaining my friend.

Sounds like a b**** to me. You made a good move

Yeah I realized during that convo that he was kind of b****made and my respect for him started crumbling in real time tbh

Majority of people like this. The internet just lets them tell on themselves in broad daylight
Humans have a tendency to be selfish. Ego and all that...it's the way we mentally protect ourselves...

Although I agree with the first part about social media giving everyone a platform (I’ve learned to just tune it out really), I don’t really agree with the second part of what you’re saying. I think in a vacuum yes people have a tendency to not be consistent on things but in reality we are all dynamic and that means that we change our opinions or how we feel about things. I know it can be frustrating but that’s just our human nature imo.

I’m not talking about a change of heart bro. Or having a different opinion. I’m talking spineless behavior that only serves one purpose; making you and others feel better about how yourself. There’s a big and important difference between the two.
