Maybe think about lyrics before you assume shes glamorizing themI've thought about them plenty. I've heard her whole discography multiple times and enjoy Ultraviolence despite it containing many examples of what I mean.
Whether she was in an abusive relationship in the past is irrelevant to my point. I called into question her choice of forming a public image and aesthetic around battered housewives in the American "Golden age" of the 1950s.
Fiona Apple has sung about rape. Tori Amos sang an a capella song on her debut album detailing a time she was gang raped in a van. They are not associated with abuse the way Lana is because they never fetishized their experiences.
If you don't think Lana has fetishized abuse, just understand that a lot of us do and it's where the criticism is coming from. Lana herself seems to recognize this and implies that she changed course with NFR to silence these critics. But she wants to go back to writing about "flawed" relationships.
It'll be interesting to see how her music changes after this letter.
