1. That's not the point.
2. Bro what. My point is a counter to ur argument that land control is a minute inequality stop twisting s***. Land control is not some small issue lol
3. I literally gave you an example of someone using their residence as an airbnb. If I leave my residence for a month ,but part of my stuff is still there, and I live with my partner In her residence for a month. How is that being regulated, cause I still lived there ?
4. You cant just say people will be going to schools closer to home just because education is more equal. There are other factors beside education that draws students to schools. And that's my issue, as a student who would rather live in a dorm than own their apartment. I dont think theres enough space to do that, but u said u dont agree with that so nvm
5. It is, cause seizure of land based off a "common good" is dangerous precedent. And it ties with the concept that your land is not truly yours which also can lead to problems.
6. According to economics lol
7. So what separates landlords from people that profit off of paying people to work on farms or construction for housing ?
And it's only exploitative if they're being treated unfairly.
1. You can't just keep giving examples and then say thats not the point when I address them.
2. You literally said wars have been fought over land even when material needs have been met. I told you to name the wars. You then brought up a bunch of wars that occurred even when the conditions were not at all what you described.
3. Nope, now youre changing up again. The original example was you going to live with your partner. But cool, do that, still doesn't mean in this society that you will be able to rent your place out in exchange for profit.
4. And you can't say that they won't lol. Many students actually, especially freshman students.
5. Not if the land is already known as belonging to the community. Sorry but you don't need so much land when it could be used on things that improve the community. We're talking about unused plots of land here
6. Are you talking about companies that pay farmworkers/field workers a wage in the private sector? So for example say i own a construction company and i pay some construction workers and then they go out and build houses. Or are you talking on a personal level, where I might pay construction workers directly to build my house
they are treated unfairly by the very nature of the relationship

1. Stop it lol. I made the point and you didnt address it because of the pool example. I gave you another example and you still didn't address it. This is a direct quote I said earlier "Again the pool is a loose example. And yes it is because if it's anything besides food, water, and shelter it's a want. In this context needs defintley holds subjectivity to it. Or else your whole idea that every person in the housing needs 4 a bedroom is false. So surely there must be a guideline on these needs right ?" Babyproofing is not a need it's a want.
2. No I didnt say that unprovoked. I said that after you said land control is a minute inequality. I said land control is not a minute inequality cause wars have been fought over it when basic needs have been met. No matter what war I give u, ur going to say basic needs weren't met. I can say wars fought over conquest of land, were you can make a case for basic needs being met, and you would still say that. So that basic needs part is moot, but the actual target of my statement is that land control has been the SOLE reason for wars beside basic needs being involved. So idk why your so caught one part of the part.
3. I'm confused. Am I not living with my partner in this example as well ? And how doesnt it mean that, using this example I will definitely be able to make a profit under your society, you havent offer any regulations to this concept.
4. I never said they won't, but you have to account for out of state students and account for students who want to live on campus
5. So no really owns the land, the community does and can take it whenever they want ?
6. Both, but more so on the personal level where your family owns a big farm and they cant actively work on it alone and they choose to hire workers to pick crops to sell the food to their community. How are they treated unfairly by the relationship ?
Was more curious about it as background as to why his opinions are so far from my own, not specifically related to this thread specifically
You greaseball I deleted it after I read your god damn comment relax
but always the end goal, i was not speaking for the perspective of a college student i figured thats a obvious given
one of my fav ktt users good to see you around slim
I agree ppl shouldn't be charged for either
But farmers are being directly compensated for their labor at least
Landlords aren't doing any labor
“Tenants could easily maintain their own property”
True, and people could easily grow their own crops and cook their own food. Because they can do such a thing on their own, the labor of providing that service for them is now no longer labor?
Landlords offer a service that does require labor. The process of buying land cost money that they had to use labor to attain. They have to market and maintain that property. They have to collect rent and address concerns. The service the tenant receives is that they are able to keep their mobility, and aren’t tied down to a house note. They don’t have to save money for a down payment on a house/realtor fees/property taxes. They don’t have to go in to debt that they may not be able to afford or get a loan for. They can get a place to live even if they don’t have the requirements necessary to buy a house.
Well they don't allow people to live on land, they charge people to live on land.
They add no value to society, yet they extract a whole lot of it, that makes it inherently exploitative.
A massive apartment complex opened up in my city recently. The complex is on what was formerly commercial property in a low income area. It’s gated with security, has its own parking garage with a camera system. It’s huge and will be able to house hundreds of people. Businesses have (prior to Covid) started opening near the apartment complex.
The complex doesn’t steal land from low income citizens, as it was commercial property and wasn’t about to be purchased by citizens anyways. It has led to other businesses opening near them which is surely beneficial for those business owners. There are a lot of car jackings/robberies/theft in the area. The tenants now have more security than they would have living on their own and parking their car in the street instead of in a garage.
How is this providing no benefit to society?
National Parks are evil and must be abolished. The government has taken and claimed land that belongs to the people. The government has stolen from us 500,000 miles of protected land across the across. With 500,000 square miles, we could house well over a billion good sized studio apartments. There is no reason why our tax money should be going to preserving trees and animals while we have homeless people dying on the streets. Hoarding land during a housing crisis? Disgusting

Most ppl can't do that stuff on their own. Not everyone has the requisite land to do so

1. I did address it. You're out playing dumb, pretending like you can't see the difference between luxury and necessity because you want to prove a point. But I even told you that you could try your best to argue for a pool as a necessity, you chose not to.
2. Israel and Palestine is not a***ogous to two neighbors not having the exact same amount of land.
3. I'm confused. Am I not living with my partner in this example as well ? And how doesnt it mean that, using this example I will definitely be able to make a profit under your society, you havent offer any regulations to this concept.
3. Are you asking for specific regulations lmao? I just told you, the basis for home ownership would be your continued residence at a property. The moment you move out and attempt to rent it out, you no longer own it because you no longer live there so you can't rent it out. Not hard to understand.
4. It's like you can't understand nuance. If you have a house sitting on 40 acres, theres really not much reason to believe you should own all of it, unless it was being farmed or something. And 40 acres is a lot different than just a simple front and backyard and you're fooling yourself if you think people can't understand this.
5. The fact that they are most likely going to be paid s*** wages and have no say in how the farm is run
Most ppl can't do that stuff on their own. Not everyone has the requisite land to do so
Most people can’t buy their own homes. Not everyone has the capital to do so
Most people can’t buy their own homes. Not everyone has the capital to do so
Hence why the ability to have a home shouldn't at all be tied to income
Hence why the ability to have a home shouldn't at all be tied to income
So you don’t only dislike landlords, you also dislike the idea of homes costing money.
How would you differentiate value between houses that are built differently? For instance, a 1200 square foot house in a low income area built in the 70’s that hasn’t been remodeled since, vs a 3500 square foot house that was built this year in a high income area?
And also, if your upset that shelter costs money, then your issue shouldn’t be with landlords. Landlords exist in a system where shelter cost money. They provide people a way to get shelter for less money than they would spend on buying their own, meaning lower income people are benefitted from their existence in the system we have currently.

Yes when our old landlord told us to piss outside rather than fix our plumbing we certainly benefited. No, these people are parasites leeching off the labor of others.

1. You didnt address it. Tell me why you would implement baby proofing in a house. Baby proofing is a need to you ?
2. Land control is not a minute issue. In ur system that is designed to increase fairness in society, one person land being bigger than another will definitely cause problems if u ask me, but okay.
3. But u also just told me that I could rent it out if I want to. "Sure, I suppose you could do that, but only so as long you yourself are not vacating the premises in a way that signifies you no longer live there." Which is exactly what I'm doing with an airbnb type situation.
4. Its seem like can't understand why this is a problem lol. I keep referencing cuba, cause that's exactly what happened there. You keep neglecting real issues of abuse of power and how the land really belongs to the community who are represented by elected officials who can decide what they want to do with the land.
5. What if their not paid s*** wages tho ? Is this relationship unfair ? Yes or no question

So an anecdote

1. Baby proofing could be seen as a need because it maximizes the safety of your child. But this is why I'm also in favor of a baby kit being sent to all expectant parents
2. You. Cannot. Live. In. Two. Places. At. Once. My point being that if you could somehow find someone who would pay you to live in your house alongside you in a society where everyone has a home then more power to ya. But, you cannot rent out what you do not own. If you say "hey I found a partner I'm going to go live with, so I'm moving out of this place. Want to rent it?" That would not work because you are going to live with your partner. You can't live in place A and B at the same time thus you cannot own places A and B. If you respond with "yes I can" then this conversation is over because it will just represent yet again that you are trying to impose the rules of today on what I am proposing, where home ownership is based on you living in a place, which you cannot do if you live somewhere else.
4. The community isnt represented by elected officials. Its represented by the community. Yes, land that can be used for the good of the community is owned by the community. Your house and yard are your personal property. The 40 acres around your house are not.
5. Do they share ownership of the farm?
