it's should be on Youtube, not sure how much Jazz Poetry you've peeped or you're into. This album is one of my highest ranked and recent finds. The musicality and poetry work hand in hand and neither suffers because of it, in substance or versatility.

The War on D**** - Lost in the Dream (2014)

I remember hearing “Red Eyes” in 2014 and loving it but for some reason i never listened to the album it came from. Finally did tho and man I love it. That mix of Springsteen-styled Americana with 60s/70s psych rock is some great stuff. Need to listen again but first impressions an 8-9/10

    Ecco2k - E (2019)

first time diving in to this new wave of artists that make this type of sound

i didn't necessarily dislike it, it just didn't intrest me. It felt a little too "airy" at points and i found myself having to really concentrate harder than usual just to listen to it

the second half of the album got a lot better, and i started to enjoy it for what it was

Security! was the highlight of the album

i might actually really fw it on a re-listen but who knows

    5/10

favorite songs: Security!, Sugar & Diesel, Calcium

cute. i get that love letters is way out there. that's what i intended for when i looked for a rec 😅. i actually don't usually listen to it whole. more in bits & pieces. reservoir is one of my fav songs oat so i'm glad you got to hear it

on the other side perfect luv tape is one of my all time favs, and same with uzi. ghetto flowers has an iconic carti renegade. money mitch and sideline watching is bad b**** music and the back half of plt is more fun. ronda is insane 😇

Oh I totally feel you, I had to listen to it in parts and I honestly think that it's the best way to listen to this album. now I will pay more attention to reservoir on the next listen too

and I'm so glad about your opinion on plt because I always see people arguing about Lil uzi vert vs the world or Luv is rage being his best work while i never see love for Perfect LUV Tape which I consider his best work.

    @Notmyfirst

never heard a tortoise album, let alone a single song before this rec, did see their name floating around heavy in the post rock scene. i love me some swans and slint, so this was already an eye popper.

out of the gate, it seems like this is an instrumental album. not 100% fond of it, but it catches on. djed is an incredible track, the latter 3 and first parts are my favorite, but no clue why they are in one track, but i can’t complain too much. can’t say s*** about the length, i’m used to that long of songs, and the sequencing helps out a ton in this case, something not many post rock bands do. it’s the only “long” song on the entire album, could either be a good or a bad thing. 9.5/10

glass museum is more what i’m used to. just temporary pr. alot of comparisons to slint for me. love the unconventional instruments in the psedo-interlude (the xylophone and the.... congos?) that’s all i got it’s really good. 9/10

a survey is the shortest song here. crickets in the background give this a wild atmosphere, again, reminds me of slint. don’t like this as much, but fairly a good song. not a whole lot going on, but it doesn’t need that. 7/10

taut & tame is a major overhaul from the previous track, a little more upbeat, good sequencing. much like the other, don’t have too much to say again, but this was really good too. 8.5/10

i love dear grandma and grandpa man. sounds like something straight out of an underwater games’ soundtrack (helps that the cover has whales on it.) need a whole album that captures the experience of this track. samples are extremely fire too, gonna need the origins of those 10/10

i think along the banks of rivers is a great closure for the album. visualizing it, it’s a mix of a western/hawiian vibe to it. really great song 9/10

millions now living will never die gave me a really good first impression whilst listening to it. as you can tell, it reminded me a lot of slint lol, since i kept mentioning them all the time. but yeah it reminds me of a more accessible slint. tortoise did a very good mix of post- rock and some jazz percussion (that’s what i think). great album, i’ll check out more of their albums for sure. would’ve done better without the middle tracks, especially a survey, but it is what it is

    9/10

highlights:djed, glass museum, dear grandma and grandpa

    lowlights: a survey

guys are from chicago too, so the jazz influence is definitely more understandable
