How do people rate Black Panther so high? What criteria do they use? Is it the same as other movies or just a different scale??

People with harsh ratings are weird 2 me. Not every movie has to be some profound/groundbreaking movie
That said I’d give it a 3.5, it was enjoyable

I get what you are saying and I respect it. I agree. Rating harshly for no other reason than being a harsh critic is weird. But black panther is just a mediocre movie that we have all seen a dozen times before it was released.
I really am curious what about it makes people rate it so highly. Furthermore, I would like to know what movies they rate the same or higher.
I am not saying my taste or ratings are superior. This is all in the sake of curiosity and learning about others!

Finally having a superhero for African Americans to look up/relate to probably plays a big role in it being respected so widely.
I think that was a big step for more African American representation in film. Instead of picking a side character to be a.a. for some racial diversity and actually paying respect to a.a’s and having Chadwick have a great performance on one of the biggest stages (marvel) was huge for the future of more diversity/equal opportunity for a.a in film
One of my problems with Black Panther is that I like Killmonger more than him.
I've only watched it twice even though I own the bluray. Guess I'll watch it again before BP2.
@Soupvillain Model Shop!!!
my fave demy
watched jeepers creepers last night at work..... Used to be legit terrified of it as a kid haven't seen it since elementary school probably
5/10
Gone Girl : 8/10
I was expecting something else, but it was really good, really good pacing thru 2h 30 min

I wanted to DM you about it last night after watching but I fell asleep 😄
Def top tier Demy and my new favourite too! I could listen to Lola go on in that accent for hours
The story of Lola comes to a conclusion in style in this film. I admire the fact he did it in the US, if only I could find more stuff like this
Btw when she speaks about her husband allegedly going on business trips when he was in fact gambling with his mistress.. was that connected to Bay of Angels in any way
Also @RASIE I'm surprised you haven't seen Diary of a Chambermaid
that Bunūel and Moreau combo too strong 😩💖

Yessir. Bay of Angels, Model Shop, Lola, Cherbourg, Rochefort, Une Chambre, and 3 Seats are all set in the same universe per se where reoccurring characters directly and indirectly cross paths across films.
I have an old essay somewhere in my cloud files that i saved when i read it a frw years ago that made a couple interesting points that suggest Donkey Skin might also be connected to the "Lola Universe" — but I cant remember what they were for life of me
And there's also the film 2011 film Americano, directed by Demy and Varda's son Mathieu that's a more or less his own addition to universe his dad created — and Salma Hayek plays Lola in it.

Been wanting to for a hot min. Took a break from watching Bunuel a long time ago and never got around to coming back to him
