story of a cheat was amazing and the storytelling so damn engaging

La Poison is such a comical film for its subject too. those are the only two films i've seen so far.

judging from these two, it's quite refresing for its age since american films had to follow the hays code while these deal with immorality as something more positive and that crime could pay

might catch one of those on the CC tonight

So far I've seen Story of a Cheat (my fave so far), Pearls of the Crown, and Desire.

And yeah his work is also really interesting as prototypical examples of stuff that would later be outline under auteur theory in france. Despite Guitry initially using cinema as a means to show his plays to a wider audience, he really starts playing with the medium a lot and figuring out what shots work best for his material. (Not to mention his signature treatment of credits too.)

    S***and the City 2 (2010)
    4/10

You know in a weird way I have to give this movie credit for not giving a f***.

Honestly, this s*** is crazy. These tired women fly out to the f***ing Middle East just to play dress up in Arabic clothing, create drama, and set up goofy gags. There was no reason for this to exist. This s*** was 2 and hours long and s*** wasn’t even that different in the end.

I felt like I had to watch this because I’ve seen the entire series and the first movie, but wow this is pointless and tired.

yupp, it's based in one of Rio's favelas!

It is a film about how being born into a community that struggles socially and economically can damn you into a fate of poverty with the only feasible agents of change being that of d**** and crime. The movie is shown through the eyes of different characters including the city.
