let me address this as a kendrick listener first off, an artist is not here to make something accessible - that’s a privilege.

it isn’t even his or her job to give you something likeable. The artist is allowed to present you misery in sound on purpose. If they wish to convey

imagine if miles producer said “ i just want something accessible, miles ” he didn’t say that! he said “ yea, let’s get the marshall amplifiers! “

miles knew when he hooked up the wah wah pedal to his trumpet - he was going to ruffle the base. Go look at the reviews - bunch of people crying about why was he being loud & why wasn’t he swinging on his tracks? why was miles obsessed with these loud guitars & drums? this ain’t Elvin Jones, who are these people? where is the piano? what is this fender rhodes? 😒

In so many words, Kenny has always said “catch this wah wah - i do what i want.”. Whether you like it or not, it’s a snapshot of his sonic psyche. Maybe it doesn’t gel with you but maybe giving something accessible is not the path for hip hop anymore.
