ive been seeing a lot more love for OJ recently but just thought id clear the air
I always think it’s weird when artist take their roles in culture too seriously. I thought this with Yeezus and Jay calling himself HOV. I hope there is another meaning than what I think it is. But no one man is the savior of culture.
Maybe it’s a personal family thing like being the leader of his family and then I submit that’s pretty dope. Or even a more vain reason like savior of rap would be acceptable. I guess we will wait and see.
but is that because of the general negative definition we give that phrase? because it's way simpler than that
maybe when people are arguing he possesses a savior complex, it's in a negative way. but if we're just matching the statements made in the music to the literal meaning, i don't think it's inaccurate really. doesn't discount everything else that makes him who he is
i mean, you can have a savior complex and still be a good standup guy; however (imo), saying kendrick has a savior complex is essentially saying he feels he has an obligation to "save" the hood / black culture, not unlike how a male feels he has an obligation to "fix" a woman that isn't up to societal norms. i don't really think that's the message he wants his audience to take away from his lyrics
yall see this yet?
