I’ve just been wondering, y’all think the XXX death and the reaction to it had some type of influence here?

He just seems really done with it all on this album, almost like a ā€œI Triedā€ attitude

Ive read two different narratives about TPAB itt

    1) it wasn't even a political album, it was more about himself and his environnement and touched on socio-economo-political issues

    2) kdot thought he could have major impact with that album's message

what was TPAB message in your opinion?

I mean it's def about his environment, but when you take the angle kendrick takes it becomes political

You got songs like you aint gotta lie and hood politics that are more directly about his own environment, but songs like for free, alright or wesleys theory is about more than that and really looking outwardly and contain more social commentary

I think the lines between talking about your own environment and social commentary are blurred anyway when you do it in the way kendrick does it vs lil baby

People do kinda ignore the extent to which his own experience play a part in the album tho, especially his white fans i've noticed, maybe bc those experience seem so abstract to them

But i def do think he thought he could have more of an impact, especially when you listen to that poem throughout the album

In the end he was like "idk maybe i'm just another nigga", and that's what he's been coming to accept since then

He gave Chief Keef a higher score than this when Keef had a legit transphobic bar

He acknowledged it said he disagreed but Keef is open to have his own views so idk we’ll see

He spent half of Damn review going in on Kendrick’s religious beliefs lol

Why does that make it feel cheap?

How would he tried to improve himself if he didnt realize his hangups, or already got over them?

Also thats just part of the album, most of the album is about him saying "im a person too" imo, instead of these grandiose assumptions & ideals people have placed on him since tpab.

Idgi. The album is just mostly about self reflection, & trying to break the ideals/idolization some have forced upon him. And yes, most people do use celebrities as a shell to place their own ideals into that they then convince themselves that is who the celebrity(s) are, while others see celebrities as robots or these "abstract things" that only exist when theyre paying attention to them. Kinda like how people treat teachers & are surprised when they see them "irl" at a grocey store. Theyre just people.

This album is recognizing his own faults through life up to today (which a lot of people can relate too), and parts of it is him rejecting the celebrity disassociation. And of course parts of the album is him explaining how he got to this point of reflection & why.

An album full of mindless anarchy or an album full of sanitized holier than thouness is what would be cheap.

Not saying you have to like the album tho, just think youre being unfair/misjudging, imo.

Album is actually very "mature" and "brave" imo.

Not in a superficial or idealized way that people imagine or inflate maturity & braveness to be.

But in the way of just being honest about yourself, but also man enough to reflect on yourself. The strengths AND weaknesses. The beauty and the ugly of oneself.

Like admitting you need help & realizing why you need that help. Its hard, & it hurts. Maybe not for everyone, but for a lot of people it is & takes a lot of time.

Actual maturity & bravery, personally/self-wise speaking. Not situational, topic or action wise.
