For whatever reason the new album hasn't really clicked with me. I like it, it has great production and is right up my alley in terms of genre but it seems kind of low energy and uninspired compared to his very best work. It might be better than Mr. Morale but I'm not sure I like it more.

Lmao I never said any of the beats weren’t good. I said the production is amazing throughout, but it never had any moments where it blew me away like certain beats on other rap albums this year.

What I’m saying is that Kendrick himself is the focal point of this album, not necessarily the production. It serves its purpose, but it’s not as outstanding as some other rap production we’ve heard this year

I respect that though, about not having an opinion the more I listen the more I understand that at least one major part of this album is an intensely personal catharsis for Kendrick to even say all of this. Like, at the end of the day, it’s for him more than us lol
