3 to 4 times and the songs that I liked more. I have favorited 11 of the songs. I like those songs but i just feel something off. I dont love this project its just cool to me.

I feel the same way but with TPAB. Of his major releases that was his weakest for me, until this.

I loved the second part of the album more but it just feel musically they tried something but it just doesnt feel organic. Its enjoyable but it seems Kendrick has lost something that i cant pinpoint right now

I was talking about this on twitter, I don't think it's just provocative or just there to create a conversation.

Someone there asked "what's society's honest solution to reach the ignorant/uneducated"?

Like, we, the "moral authorities of the time" all sit around and pat ourselves on the back for understanding the plights of others and being "woke" and we want to create this bubble of existence where all humans are like us. But that's not reflective of the realities of life and the differences in people.

There are others who are not on the same wavelength as us. Some who were left behind because of one reason or another.

They remain ignorant/bigoted/indoctrinated or whatever you wanna call it.

Society has said that to deal with such people our attitude must simply be "fuck 'em" and continue to try create a utopia.

Hell even in the Bible there's a scripture about not giving pearls to pigs. I mean, we saw how Christians behaved when they were the moral authority. They had the same f*** 'em attitude to people not on their wavelength.

I think Kendrick wants those "lost" (forgive the Christian lingo) to come along with him, despite what society says.

And I think this is his way to reach those who were left behind.

I think he was aware of how it would sound to the same people he's trying to aid in their plight. Like "you're making things worse, you're using their language".

And a reality people weren't ready for is that one of the proven methods of reaching people is by speaking their language. It just so happens that their language is as f***ed up as it is but it's like he's showing them I was one of y'all once.

We have to learn from the moral authorities of the past, we can't just say f*** em to everyone who doesn't think like us. All it does it push societal ills under the rug but they never get dealt with. And then they inevitably come up in filthier and uglier ways than what we once encountered. We gotta break the cycle. We gotta do better than the previous moral authorities.

Not saying people shouldn't feel what they feel about his attempt but I respect Kendrick's attempt at breaking the cycle.

Kendrick is making albums that are for him and cult culture type, tpab and this are going to be his 2 most detached albums from pop/hype/radio culture. Eminems best albums are sslp/mmlp/relapse but they don't play those on radio or in clubs.

This isn't a bad thing, Kendrick is an artist, and what type of artist would he be if he didn't create honest music?

In my opinion the problem with this album is the production , too basic for me outside of 3 or 4 songs.
Lyrically his second best after GKMC , production wise his worst.

Thats alright man. An album this polarizing isnt gonna hit with everyone.

Well i just accept this will be the first one that just misses me. I was such a big Kendrick fan but maybe i just not in the mood for it. I'll give it a listen after a few days again.

Daddy Issues is f***ing immaculate. Beat is incredible. When Sampha came on I legit lost my s*** don’t think I’ve been this caught off guard by a feature since Frank’s Track.

Also that Kanye x Drake line was funny as s***

I agree with you that context matters. And I think you bring up a great example to show that. I also don’t think he should have embarrassed the fan. Although I empathize and understand why he did. But I think I might be the only one here who sorta kinda thinks Kendrick is admitting he shouldn’t have embarrassed the fan. Cause he’s just too f***ing smart to not understand that what he’s saying doesn’t make sense in such an obvious way. But if that’s true, it’s odd that the song is mainly about him confronting his homophobia and transphobia, and then at the end he throws in this totally separate point about the nuance of context lol. I’m essentially conflicted and I’ve been tryna figure it out. I understand that you think there’s no nuance there.

It happens. All my fav artists have some work that I don’t really fw, but there’s so much other stuff from them to enjoy.

Hopefully I enjoy the next project more
