I think this album and Donda are both fantastic but flawed records

This is a take I can agree with

Break down the thought and emotional process if you can please

When I first woke up: Ready to s***post and troll

First listen: Didn’t like tracks 1-2 that much, but really loved 3-4 and started thinking i liked it

Went through the whole album, still critical but enjoyed most of it

    Immediately restarted the album

Listened to it 5 times in a row at work

Drove home and went to the gym and listened to it there

Went for a run and realized i was still listening and vibing to it, and started thinking about the subject matter

Realized it’s a classic and i have to hold my L

Being molested as a child doesn’t excuse doing it to others when you become an adult. I get what he’s saying, but it’s still a very suspect idea to bring up

It doesn’t excuse it and he still has to face his punish for his actions, but that’s what happened to him.

Kendrick implying that ā€œlife failedā€ R. Kelly is truly disgusting

Have you read into his youth? Life absolutely failed R. Kelly. That doesn't excuse the evil s*** he did, but it does give us some insight into how he ended up the way he did.

I get that, but the way Kendrick says it frames it like Kelly being molested at a young age is what caused his life to go down the drain in his adulthood after he did all the terrible things he ended up doing

It’s okay to criticize Kendrick and his art y’all, like he said he’s not our savior

It's funny cuz this is part of what Kendrick was talking about on the album. We don't have to tip toe around this stuff. Kendrick isn't excusing what R. Kelly did, he's telling it like it is. Life did fail him. The adults in his life and the mentors in his life absolutely f***ed him up.

I can’t even decide on my favorite tracks because its too many. Its easier to say which ones i don’t care about

  • just finished disc 1

Yeah I know that, what happened to him as a child is terrible. But just like Auntie Diaries, I think his message was good but just the execution comes off a little eyebrow raising

What he says fits the album and what he talks about on the song after that, it's definitely an important topic we don't talk about

It’s the execution of the idea he’s trying to get across that’s suspect. He could’ve worded it better

anecdotal but a close trans friend of mine also really enjoyed Auntie Diary.

I think it's perfectly valid for lgbt people to take issue with the way Kendrick chose to go about the song and us straights have no place saying one way or the other how to feel

Seems like many trans people think they are right

What did they say that’s wrong?
