yeah. you aint listened to those songs then cause you completely missed my point.

Some people are too basic, cynical or both to understand that a rapper can still be a highly skilled lyricist without being a universally effective lyricist (ie Hov/Wayne/Drake)

    Therefore they downplay Kendrick

Not at all nervous as he dug to the surface
Tarnished gold chain is what he loosened up the earth with
He used his mouth as a shovel to try and hollow it
And when he couldn't dirt-spit, he swallowed it
Working like a, hmm, reverse archaeologist
Except, his buried treasure was sunshine

like...bro it's Lupe and then everyone else. Let's not do this lol.

And I been a Kendrick fan since he used to rap like he had a sore throat lol.

The thing about Kendrick is that while he’s not technically profound, the majority of his lyrics pack a punch. There’s complexity and thought in his simplest s***.

except the biggest mistake was he didn't. Turned down a roc-a-fella deal.

You didn’t specify a point or say anything about story telling

Kendrick has a different style of rapping than Lupe, and my point is that there isn’t a big gap. Once you get to a certain tier of lyricism the gap can only be so big

And also please don’t tell me what I’ve heard Lupe is one of my favorite artist of all time

I think the word you looking for is punchlines when you say universally effective lyricist

I’ve said it before but it’s okay to say kendrick doesn’t excel in everything

Literally created a movie-like universe about his life with his albums, y'all gon appreciate it when he's done tho

The thing about Kendrick is that while he’s not technically profound, the majority of his lyrics pack a punch. There’s complexity and thought in his simplest s***.

the thing about Lupe in his prime was that he was doing all that while being as simple as ever. My thing about his later stuff is he's made it a mission to be as complex as ever that people forget he used to be quite very simple back in the day.

Like He Say, She Say for example.

Gotta Eat is one of the most deceptive tracks ever cause it's so easy to miss that whole song is like a double entendre in itself.

Lupe signed to Atlantic because of Jay. Jay was originally going to go be a CEO over there but he ended up switching to Def Jam. Lupe stupidly signed a contract with Atlantic thinking that he’d be in good hands with it run by Hov. But then Hov made the switch.

Kendrick is lowkey incredibly technically proficient, he just masks it and makes it looks super easy. Like nobody can flow like kendrick

That’s true. But I just meant lyrically. Because flow wise he’s one of the most technical for sure.

    Listen to Lupe mixtapes lol

Nigga had zero weaknesses lyrically. Perfect balance of street and smart lol.

His only deficiency is that it’s not always easy to catch his references and sometimes im not trying to dig that deep lol.

Lupe has like 20 nosetalgia type verses where s*** link together.

  • Apr 20, 2022

Yea lupe can be a great songwriter and still has some mainstream appeal. Not on the level of Kendrick though but at the time lupe came out, his music had the perfect balance. At least considered at that time
