eh, i respect your opinion, but i still didn't find it corny (and i think most people would agree, considering the album's near-universal praise).

i think that circumstance matters: around this time, especially, kendrick was being compared nonstop to 2pac. as he said on the heart pt 3, it was incredibly overwhelming for him to be put into the same box as the guy he looked up to as a kid. i took the interview as a way for him to express the fact that he's been turning to 2pac for spiritual guidance.

now, if the interview went like "hey, 2pac, am i the greatest rapper of this generation?" "yes kendrick, nobody is touching you, you're the young king" then it would be corny as f***, but i found their "conversation" to actually be quite interesting.

it was clear to me that kendrick was actually trying to learn, and expressing what he learned in the form of this fake interview, as opposed to just trying to use 2pac's name for some buzz.

I agree with this assessment. It could’ve been corny as hell but I think Kendrick had the maturity and Nuance to pull it off.

Not to mention the fact that the whole album was a nod to Kendricks musical influences growing up, which he said in an interview. From George Clinton to 2Pac the album was an ode to the west coast. Kendrick was the perfect person to do it. I mean the OGs literally passed this nigga the torch lol

Afeni Shakur approved the Pac thing, what's corny is an artist buying an unfinished MJ song that he probably didn't want out and making a terrible song out of it and then cutting it from setlists right when Leaving Neverland airs tho
