just finished Devs. Gave audiences lots to mull over philosophically but didn’t stick the landing emotionally imo. dunno if forest’s acceptance of multi-worlds principle was believable… didn’t feel earned within the context of the season. I would recommend the series purely for the ideas it foregrounds as well as the overall cinematic and auditory experience, as with most of Garland’s projects that I’ve seen. As with his other projects, (annihilation, ex machina) It was lacking in depth re: the emotional inner worlds of characters
Anyone else watched it? Interested to hear other’s takes on the finale.
I agree I don’t think they showed enough for him to just accept something he was against the entire show and was against his #1 rule but I think the ending was supposed to make you think maybe the world the show takes place in was already a simulation and everything around us is a simulation…who’s to say what’s real and what’s fake.
How would we know if humanity is not just a computer simulation running on a super computer on advanced alien planets hard drive…would we ever know?

Yeah the scene with the 3 second future projection on the screen in the room full of devs definitely brought the simulation understanding of the devs universe to mind.
I read an interpretation of the scene that explained that for it to work then the simulated future selves that the devs were watching would’ve had to have been witnessing their own future projected 3 seconds in the future ad infinitum. 🤯

I liked the questions the show stirred up around looking at your future self.
If you saw your self a couple seconds into the future would you change something?
If you did the same things as you saw yourself doing was it you doing it or was it pre programmed?
Are you just copying what you saw?
Or do we have free will to make decisions?
If we do have free will do our decisions always end up at a predetermined destination or answer?
The illusion of free will…
So many questions this show made me think about back when I watched it.

Season 2 not bad, I actually plan on rewatching S1-S3. Daredevil, Jessica Jones S1 and Punisher are the only Marvel Netflix series I'd rewatch
Hold up, now that I think about it Daredevil got kinda ass when Elektra showed up Don't remember if this was S2 or S3 though

Nah dont mind me bro push on. I'm just not a fan of most superhero tv shows. I tried this cause many people I know highly recommended it. It's still the best non-satire superhero show out and also the best marvel tv show out as well (by a lot, just off the strength of the first season), but I just eventually became disinterested in seeing the rest of it.
Heard about this because I'm a huge Survivor fan and Mike White was a finalist on one of the GOAT seasons. Saw the critical acclaim this show got and torrented immediately
This show is soothing af, like nyquil in series form. Only 6 episodes about 1 hour each but it took me nearly 2 weeks to finish because I'd fall asleep watching it every night Nothing was really happening, just a bunch of different people on vacation. Then the privilege and class commentary started creeping in and suddenly all the critical acclaim made sense
Some great performances from Jennifer Coolidge and whoever played Armond. Alexandra Daddario's titties making an appearance is always a plus. Would've liked to see Sydney Sweeney's and whoever played Paula's too. But I just expected more from a storytelling perspective than "Privileged people not understanding their privilege" Amazing colors and music though. Highly recommend if you're looking for something to fall asleep to

Elektra the only s***ty aspect of it, I did not care for her. Show is still worth watching and finishing though imo

literally just finished and have so many thoughts.
Interesting how they didn't involve Buddhism at all, with so many ideas seeming to draw from that
