I’ve honestly only listened up to Sign O the Times. What albums from the 90s onward are worth checking out? My gf likes Come a lot so was thinking about checking that out but just curious what peoples general thoughts on his later albums are
@Sir_Swagalot @AudioConsulting @RVI @localblaccmane think yall are the big Prince heads here iirc so wanted to get your thoughts
Oh wait I forgot Graffiti is 90s too, you definitely wanna check that one out
Musicology, 3121, Art Official Age, are my favorite later prince albums they got some slaps

symbol
come
gold
exodus
emancipation
truth
one nite alone
new power soul
rave
trc
3121
planet earth
lotus flower
mpls sound
art official age
plectrum
hit n run II
they need to trash the artwork after 96 - everything dump it except TRC 😒
Gold Experience is absolutely essential and is possibly top 5 Prince imo
a lot of people uphold Diamonds and Pearls and Love Symbol album as classics but i've never been huge on them outside of a few songs. I think Come, Chaos and Disorder, and especially Emancipation are solid and underappreciated. Graffiti Bridge is kind of a mishmash but the couple of highlights are amazing
I can't speak too much on 2000s+ stuff yet but I've been listening to 3121 recently and its decent
How late we talking?
If we talking 90s peep:
Come
Diamonds and Pearls
Love Symbol
The Gold Experience got some joints on it but overall it's a pretty skippable project. The skits every other track also gets old real fast.
For 2000s:
The Rainbow Children is very hard in my opinion, way more jazz-funk inspired. I've been told the album was at its best when performed live because it sounds like one long jam session. Never got to hear that but when you listen to the album you definitely get that vibe. I recommend peeping it, it's a fun album.
Musicology and 3121 are very good, and if you loved his albums in the 80s then these albums are probably what you'd feel more comfortable with. They might not be as good as those 80s albums, but they are very familiar and they are still good albums if you wanna know "What would an 80s Prince sound like in the 'future'"
I never listened to Lotusflow3r but that joint is like three albums and one of them is of one of Prince's proteges?
2010s:
I personally really liked ArtOfficialAge and HitnRun Phase 1 and 2, I think they had a lot of a good funk R&B jams on those albums, but they seem to be pretty disliked among Prince faithful because they're seen as "too tame". But if you don't need super eccentric Prince then those are pretty good albums for that
“Come,” “The Gold Experience,” and—technically—“Exodus” all happen to be my favorites recorded during that period.

Gosh, that Bria Valente studio album is atrocious. (Perhaps except for “Here Eye Come,” which happens to be a Nona Gaye reject recorded circa 1993.)

finally some art official age praise On Here

I never listened to it lol the most I heard of Lotusflow3r was Love Like Jazz, Feel Better Feel Good Feel Wonderful, and Crimson and Clover.
But yeah, please consider checking out “The Rainbow Children,” “Musicology,” and “3121;” besides, I wholeheartedly recommend that you listen to Támarʼs studio album, too.
