He had more buzzing songs and was in demand for features more than Eminem was for a reason. Drake was more talked about on social media. The youth checked for drake more. Drake's actions were followed more.

The core fanbase is what makes Kamikaze and that last album chart. 800k people dropping $10 on an album in one week is crossover, mainstream appeal. I listened to TC/NWTS 1000x more than Recovery/MMLP2. Drake was a better artist at the time. That's my favorite Drake era. I was in College those years, and I traveled a lot. But people were hating. It's just the truth. Meanwhile Eminem was still in top 3 discussions for best rappers alive. Eminem was never a feature artist, dude's a weirdo recluse. He disappeared for half a decade at one point, but was hot and relevant enough to still be the biggest rapper when he dropped.
Em had plenty of criticisms, at the time, the music was garbage.
