I always believed in the bigger picture
If I could get them niggas to listen outside my core
Then I can open the door
Reintroduce them to honesty, show 'em that they need more
The difference between the pretenders and the Kendrick Lamars
And so, I took the fall

Young Kdot (2010-2013) was a giant motivator for me to really do something with my life back in high school. I really looked up to Kendrick. Kinda sucks the TDE camp ain’t what it used to be. They could be putting out good new music on the regular

kendrick lamar is one of the greatest artists of our generation and a goat in general and we’re blessed to have someone like him and watch him rise

I remember hearing OD and thinking he had something special but needed to flesh it out fully. Then section 80 dropped and it was just ok to me. Then one day it finally hit me for some strange reason and he became my favorite ever since.

Lupe really opened door for Cole, Wale & Kendrick tbh

I just hope he doesn’t f*** up like Kanye. He’s on a masterpiece streak like Kanye was. Kendrick is currently the best rapper alive.

first off common in my top 5 OAT so miss me wit that

second, kendrick, cole & wale found themselves in a situation more similar to Lupe in the beginning of their careers than Common

Nah he definitely wasnt the first successful conscious rapper but Lupe (just like Cole, Kendrick & Wale) were held as the new saviors of rap amongst their peers during their breakout era. That alone put them in a unique position. As much as Common is respected, he was never seen in that way as an aritst. Cole, Wale & Lupe had to balance the act of making their message mainstream enough while having career defining issues with their labels. Theres more comparisons that connect these artist but Lupe definitely pioneered for the new wave of conscious rappers

Cole and Kendrick acknowledged Lupe as an influence tho

Not saying that he opened the door for them or anything but they both said it

Interesting part of all of this is that you havent defined why Common is more suitable than Lupe in comparison. Your just downplaying Lupe & saying that theres a linage of artist who contributed to the success of conscious rap...well that's obvious, everything is influenced by something.

You are even acknowledging the similarities between Lupe & them but disregard it as not important or stupid I guess. Cant do much about that other than just say you have your opinion and I have mine but when these artist even acknowledge themselves the influence Lupe had on their careers than I feel like you have a weak argument

    Kendrick:

“I can't help but represent and thank somebody who helped me to enlighten myself, Lupe mother f***ing Fiasco.”

Along with the rest of tde saying they’re Lupe fans and influenced by him.

Cole said this in 2010 but the link is broken:

    J. Cole
"The game changed especially with the signing of Lupe, when hegot on that’s when the turn really started”
