But they don’t, so I don’t see your point? I’m telling you exactly what they’re fighting for tf
2% of what? it still isn't enough info, and I doubt any of us have enough knowledge of the industry to know if this even makes sense
i dont think its up to the more well-off writers to pay the ones who are struggling, i just assumed they all get paid around the same and pretty well. obviously im wrong then and my original comment was ignorant.
does anyone know if animators and game designers are included in this strike?
To answer your question, animators and game designers can join the WGA voluntarily. You can't write for a movie or television show unless you're in the union
I mean i wish them the best of luck but I’m not losing any sleep over this.
Edit: Actually If the people who write the StateFarm commercials are striking then I do not support this movement.

Over the last 10 years, studio profits have increased enormously.
The average tv writer's pay has gone down 4% in real terms, and has gone down 23%, adjusting for inflation.
Writers are being asked to work more and more weeks for no additional money.
As the business has shifted to a streaming model, the studios have found several clever ways to pay writers less money, while keeping writers under contract for longer and longer periods of time, unpaid.
The people in the industry are doing a good job of explaining what is going on
MODS please don't merge this with the main writers' strike thread I want to avoid bias
ICYMI, the Writers' Guild of America has gone on strike. The Writers' Guild has 12,000 members consisting of writers for television, film, and digital media. They are striking because they want better pay, better residuals from streaming, and bigger writing rooms to reduce strain on individual writers.
Social media is trying to paint this as a genuine working-class movement, just like the healthcare strikes that have occurred across the globe after COVID-19, or the recent transport strikes in Australia and the UK. Accordingly, we are expected to support the writers and their demands.
Is this right? Honestly I think most American screenwriters make propaganda or Marvel garbage. I don't really want them to be paid more. I think they should suffer. Sound off if you agree or disagree
off topic what the hell is ur avi

wages have stagnated since the late 70s/early 80s across the board, so this isn't unique to tv writers, unfortunately (not that they should have it worse than everyone else, just that this affects the mast majority of people in the vast majority of industries).
same goes for increased productivity and employees getting screwed over, it really isn't unique to writers. nothing either of us are saying is a point for or against this strike.
i dont support it but im not against it either. it just seems like rich ppl problems to me but if im wrong anyone is welcome to correct me.
it's not rich people problems lol writers be getting f***ed over

But in the case of writers they should never be living paycheck to paycheck when the industry of consuming television and movies has INCREASED while their pay has stagnated.
What he is saying is quite clear. The Tech industry and art industry facing massive layoffs and or stagnated pay while their industries BOOM. Makes no sense. Yes we are all going through it but writers is a unique struggle in that sense. Because they are being devalued while they are clearly needed.
