I’ll never tell someone they shouldn’t pursue sobriety but that definitely had a major impact
after mmlp2 starting with shadyxv he completely lost his ability to flow on a beat. and everything else came tumbling down too. he dont gaf about song structure he just wants to rhyme every syllable regardless of how it affects the music
He kinda turned into everything he rebelled against when he came on the scene
that's called getting old
because hes like 50 now and no one rapping should be that old
It's weird how we connect to certain artists. For whatever reason, I f*** so hard with Griselda even though I haven't ever been close to selling a brick (yet)
nigga said yet
He fell off when he stopped taking d****, which is a f***ed up thing to say, but the timeline checks out
I think Eminem was musically carried by Dre. He might be one of the most talented rappers ever as far as raw ability, but he needs someone that can structure that into something musically digestable.
If you listen to his pre-Dre stuff like Slim Shady EP, it suffers from the exact same problem. You can tell he can spit, and he's saying a lot of witty bars, but it's like he's lost in the woods without a compass, there's just no direction or anything musically interesting happening.

I think SSEP is absolute fire but I do agree producers are often the vision
1. he cares way too much about internal rhyme schemes and intricate flows rather than actual songwriting
2. he still raps about kim when she left him at least 15 years ago
3. horrible pop rap crossovers
4. now he’s just angry for very boring reasons rather than talking about s*** that could compel you like no one cares about what earl sweatshirt said in a random 2014 interview. it poisons his music now cos everything jus sounds way too bitter and angry like on not afraid
5. dad jokes are constantly littered in his music
i’m not really an eminem fan myself tbh but i do think he can still deliver not just a good album but a great one still. he hasn’t really lost the talent like for flows and stuff but idk something just missing. i think he makes music still for the simple fact is he don’t have anything else to do. he’s so rich what else can you do but sit inside all day binging tv shows so he needs some proper inspiration. the kim/hailey subject matter been tapped into for over a decade and still rapping about fantano is pointless
No point in being "nuanced". Nobody can be hot or make great music forever. He had a great run but he's now in the twilight of his career and that's fine. It'll happen to every rapper.
As for Jay, his case is the exception not the rule. And he only got this latest resurgence because he made a thematic album that could ride of the success of Lemonade. His time might be up too.
