I’m not really an Em fan like that anymore, but the early stuff is amazing. How did he go from this to the choppy, dad joke bar flow?

Just listen to the flow, cadence and delivery over this insane beat with the Shady voice to make it all hit 100% perfectly. It’s the best exploration into the Shady persona for me too.

I love how intentionally corny and awkward it is. It’s like, “yeah, I’m the white boy, but f*** it, I can spit nice”. I always found his early stuff to have a surrealist quality to it, so the corniness was a part of that and a part of the mystique around him. Plus, when he did the serious stuff like ‘The Way I Am’, it hit even better due to the contrast. Now, when he tries the corny s***, it just IS corny. When he tries the serious stuff, it is even cornier because he can’t slow down that stupid flow

The voice is also a big component of his greatness then.

Watching this video reminds me how wild it was when the music video version of a song had drastically different lyrics than what you would hear when you popped in the album
