This song is f***ing nuts.
I’m not really an Em fan like that anymore, but the early stuff is amazing. How did he go from this to the choppy, dad joke bar flow?
Just listen to the flow, cadence and delivery over this insane beat with the Shady voice to make it all hit 100% perfectly. It’s the best exploration into the Shady persona for me too.
I love how intentionally corny and awkward it is. It’s like, “yeah, I’m the white boy, but f*** it, I can spit nice”. I always found his early stuff to have a surrealist quality to it, so the corniness was a part of that and a part of the mystique around him. Plus, when he did the serious stuff like ‘The Way I Am’, it hit even better due to the contrast. Now, when he tries the corny s***, it just IS corny. When he tries the serious stuff, it is even cornier because he can’t slow down that stupid flow
The voice is also a big component of his greatness then.

one of my favorite em songs ever. perfectly encapsulates his whole place in a rap game back then
don't you want to grow up to be just like me?

For real. Song is also smarter than it seems. The whole irony around the ‘I don’t exist’ premise showing white America how f***ing stupid they are

yeah he really exposes the listener here. its not me its you , mentality
kinda genius if u think
his flow on this is so good
The way he makes these bars work:
I'm cancerous so when I diss you wouldn't want to answer this
If you responded back with a battle rap you wrote for Canibus
Slightly off beat but also perfect delivery

Mid compared to his newer stuff
Old Em would have been too afraid of being thought of as corny to make Not Afraid.
Played without me with my gf in the car yesterday and f*** me he used to be absolutely elite with the flows I don’t know how we got from there to here

It’s bizarre. It’s like he lost his musicality. Weird s***

Eminem has a career right now because of niggas like me.
Y'all stuck in the past ass niggas can keep touching yourselves to SSLP to Encore era Em, just know that other people have different preferences.
Em could probably still tap into this tbh he just doesn’t get good production anymore
I think my favorite instance of that flow/delivery was the wake up show freestyle. Especially over that second beat
I'm going to attempt to drown myself, you can try this at home. You can be just like meeee

he did a little bit on MTBMB deluxe

Watching this video reminds me how wild it was when the music video version of a song had drastically different lyrics than what you would hear when you popped in the album
