    hrc.org/resources/fatal-violence-against-the-transgender-and-gender-expansive-community-in-2024

    In 2024

    47%
of victims with a known killer were killed by a romantic/sexual partner, friend, or family member

    72%
of victims were people of color

    44%
    were Black transgender women

There’s been a hot steak of male violence in my city , just this past month there’s been two victims of murder suicides of two young college girls from stalkers on the first week of school

    abc13.com/post/andrea-rodriguez-avila-killed-rice-classes-canceled-tuesday-after-students-campus-death-apparent-murder-suicide/15234836

    amp.cnn.com/cnn/2024/09/05/sport/ugandan-olympian-rebecca-cheptegei-dies-intl

A ugandan Olympian was just set on fire by her boyfriend and there’s many more cases of stuff like this happening

I’ve known someone personally who attempted to murder his partner after finding out she cheated on him and shot himself when he failed . He always would come over to my house and chill with my step dad and he was very kind to my mom . Seemed like a normal guy until he wasn’t

There’s so many women of color that are taken from us so prematurely who have the greatest ambitions. What can we do in our personal lives to prevent stuff like this from happening so consistently? Why do men feel the need to take the life of a strong woman away?

ultimately men dont care and dont hold each other accountable for minor misogyny which inevitably escalates into stuff like this

Mental health care for men is still stigmatized. You got young boys growing up being don’t “crying is for girls” and s***

All the repressed emotions on top of mental health issues on top of males already generally being more aggressive by nature creates a perfect storm

crazy how u turn this thread into how men are the victims esque talking point even unintentionally cause men have mental health issues aren’t taken seriously (like women are like we didn’t give women lobotomy when he believed something was wrong with their brains, or write off women concerns with labelling em with hysteria, or just write off women concerns that their on their periods)

i think structural, social and historical legacies for example would have stronger impact, men mental health s*** is most mid wit talking point ever.

Raising society under a system that marginalizes human beings into objects and moving cogs eventually rids them of not just their own humanity but their ability to empathize and see others as humans too.

The world has a big problem with teaching men how to value the people around us as more than just objects of affection or achievement or financial gain.

    People don’t want to learn

people are too egotistical to realize that we all put on this earth with circumstances outside our control, everyone wants to scapegoat people who arent "normal"

The point is men mental health is a talking point that has been a dead horse.

More men need to talk about their mental health yes. That doesnt take away from the fact there is something wrong with how s*** is where this keeps happening to women.

    People don’t want to learn

That plus media be pushing shame and these stringent rules about sex/gender on children from a very very young age.

  • Sep 6, 2024

If men in particular weren’t taught how to shame/feel shame from goddamn adolescence, it’d be a looot more open fluidity in the world i’d tell ya that much.

Wouldnt be an instinct to closet or hide the fact you talking to or f***ing a trans woman/man/nonbinary whoever because…you dont feel deep shame or hatred for doing it.

But aforementioned, when you raise people under a system that teaches you how to devalue yourself and others around you, this is what that creates,

I’m not saying “men are victims”, I’m saying what is true: men are socialized a certain way and their mental health is 100% undervalued due to societal norms

It’s not making an excuse for them either, some men are just horrible f***ing people.

but generally suppressed rage and anger is a side effect of not processing emotions.

I don’t see how anyone can argue men aren’t socialized in a way that is harmful to their mental health.

  • Sep 7, 2024

look the societal attitude on men’s mental health is an aspect of it, for sure. but a lot of these crimes wouldn’t have happened without the presupposition that women (especially poc & trans women) simply have less value. that they are objects to be dominated & controlled, rather than human beings. pointing out the struggle of men in this first is a myopic approach and indicative of the value judgement i just mentioned.

imagine seeing these stats and yr first thought is ‘wow, poor men, nobody cares about their emotions’

i agree that men are shamed into emotional repression, but thinking about the men in this equation first is gross.
