It's widespread in the general sense of yea people are aware of the existence of trans people, but overwhelming majority have never, and probably will never interact with a trans person in their lifetime. a lot of people are ignorant to their issues, and will cling to religious reasons as to why they're against it despite them not attending Mass or friday Mosque in a decade.

lmaoooo this is so funny I bet you interact with trans individuals everyday you just don’t know it

    1. It is very clear I am referring to the advocates who rest on slogans.
    2. Even if that wasn't clear, I clarified that position to you at least twice.
    3. Am I supposed to have a trans radar that shows me what users are trans?

Can I get an apology now for you calling me stupid so many times when you were the only person who misunderstood that post?

They said themself they are a part of the community in this thread in response? Like what are you talking about? You’re legit changing goalposts so hard I’m getting whiplash

Transphobia and homophobia have definitions. Disagreeing with the position of a member of that community doesn't make you transphobic/homophobic. What an absurd position to hold.

So based on the logic itt you're transphobic or just as bad as one.

Probably. I can be honest and say I am definitely not the most progressive in my views, but I damn sure am not anti-trans/gay rights lol.

i do think there are more queer people (and I mean this in the broad sense of the word) than is statistically counted, because society is still very hostile to anything that isn't hetero or cisnormative (something that isn't completely male or female/heterosexual)

I don’t expect a forum like KTT, where people tell Persians they are wrong for supporting the protests in Iran where women and members of the gay/trans community are fighting for their basic human rights, to understand a topic as serious as this either.

    it’s not a disagreement

It’s transphobia/homophobia wearing the mask of an ally

I explained this earlier, no one said this.

I made the point that it has only entered mainstream society very recently, and I mean that as not taken as a joke/comedic gag

I think parallel discussions should've been happening with the gay rights movement and second/third wave feminism, but even there was internal strife about transphobia in movements of that era, and sadly trans people got suppressed and TERF stuff was quite big

You'd be surprised. Yall act like some of the language used today to talk about gender & sex, was used in the early 00s. I'm sure it was in various academia bubbles, but it was not at all a widespread house hold thing. It still ain't judging how your average person engages with it in conversation. Gen Z in has definitely pushed the issue a lot further in just the last 2-3 years alone.

They are though? Same way those people are racist? It doesn’t explicitly mean they’re horrible people and can’t be educated or don’t want to be, it’s just what it is, they are not accepting of trans people and do not like them. That’s the word that’s used

I have to disagree with you because I think there's a fundamental difference between "transphobic" or "racist" in terms of being actually hateful and in terms of simply not understanding something or being divorced from knowledge of the subject. Conflating the two together doesn't make sense to me. I get that yeah they may be connected in some ulterior moral/ethical manner but like if someone accidentally does something they literally just dont know or arent aware of, i dont think the initial reaction should be condemnation unless theyre like explicitly being hateful. From my POV there was an OP which had videos of some dude being humiliated by public influencers. Then people used the term "outted" to refer to this because of the colloquial association with (thing happens) -> (person is humiliated for thing). Did some people mean this in an explicitly bigoted way? I mean, maybe? But I don't think it makes any sense to conflate the entire set of responses together, I even agreed with the person making the original claim in the end but I had no idea what they were saying at first. However I actually engaged and had a convo to figure that out, most people arent gonna do that in full, so like i don't think it's fair to make the assumption they were just being bigoted. Like imo bigotry requires actual hate, I understand that you can reinforce hateful rhetoric passively or by accident, sure, but I don't think people who are unaware of it should really be met with the same explicit condemnation (or assumption of condemnation) as people who are actively malicious. To me doing so deprioritzes actual real hate.

Anyone a part of the communist thread on KTT have really hurtful takes.

    They don’t understand.

I relate to you on the fact that my compatriots in Iran are being massacred and these guys are like “oh that’s bad but this is because America”, it’s actually borderline racist. Then they gaslight and call you islamophobic. It’s f***ing agonizing.

by dismissing members of the community directly bc you don’t think what you’re saying is homophobic/transphobic, yeah lmao it is just as bad

You’re basically saying to me, “ugh but I’m an ally!! I can’t be wrong!!”

    This is ridiculous.

So if a trans person discusses something with a person who is NOT transphobic, but disagrees on something, then you're just gonna say they're dismissing you simply because you're trans and they aren't. They HAVE to accept 100% of your views or else they're transphobic/homophobic.

You've made it abundantly clear that your MO is 'believe what I say or you're a bigot' so it's funny how you said people are like "ugh im an ally I can't be wrong" when you're literally doing the exact same thing: I'm trans I can't be wrong!

I would also say bigotry is the pursuance of ignorance despite someone attempting to educate, I’d say it’s hateful to double down on your point when someone from that community is actively engaged and explaining what about your viewpoint is harmful
