That’s where my criticisms of him come in. When you do stuff for shock value you better be prepared for backlash for sure. I think his music videos for the most part are corny.

But I also do know that a lot of these niggas that get mad at him wouldn’t have a problem if it were girls in the music video instead of men

nas didnt come out on his own terms. someone made the connection between him and his old twitter, which was famous. And on this old twitter he was 1. openly gay, 2. openly islamophobic. not to mention semi-nudes of him had also just leaked. so in this storm of nightmarish press, he made the smart decision to push the gay stuff to the front so the other things would just be forgotten. smart move, very strategic, but far from planned, and very far from planned to boost his career.

I respect lil nas cause he's the first gay person in the industry too really be himself openly. He's walking so the future black gay artists can be more authentic and open. Even if its a gimmick, u gotta respect his bravery. He could've just said he was gay but continued to make ambiguous songs that anyone can relate too but nah he sings about being in love with guys and openly expresses himself through his style.
