"Lil Wayne has shared why he thinks people in Hip Hop “hate on” Drake, and he believes it has to do with the color of his Young Money collaborator’s skin.
The New Orleans legend stopped by The Richard Sherman Podcast on Friday (January 19) to share his thoughts.
“I get that from my upbringing, from being around Birdman,” he began, when Sherman praised his talent-scouting abilities.
When Sherman asked why people hate on Drake, Weezy didn’t hesitate to weigh in. “He red, he light-skinned.”
“That’s just American history,” he continued. “How I know is, because I’m not light-skinned. I hated on all light-skinned dudes in school. So yeah, it’s American history, man.”

He has been hated on for everything. Always talking bout he's either white, black, jewish, soft, fake G, whatever they can come up with
Black America love to remind me what my mama look like
As if I'd ever f***in' forget
I'm never enough
Much to their dismay, I'm levelin' up, yeah
Colorism is a real thing on both sides.
That said, Cole is successful and doesn't get hate at all despite being "light skinned."
Also, I lowkey have an issue with Black folks being the face of "Drake hate" when Whites and Asians s*** on Drake way worse on social media. In fact, they're the main groups that still call Drake a pedophile and a groomer.
Just rubs me the wrong way. But colorism is a hot topic on social media.

KTT doesn't define the Black community at all.
In many real life Black communities I'm in, Cole is very beloved....like even more so than Kendrick sometimes.
Drake isn’t really hated for being light skinned not gonna lie. The only colorism that exists in hip hop is towards dark skinned women

he’s not wrong
But you could also say that Drake’s racial ambiguity and biracial background has opened doors for him that would not have been afforded to him if he was a fully Black-Canadian guy like Kardinal Offishal or K-os
so it’s a give and a take
Also Wayne been known to be insecure about his skin color so he’s just projecting

he’s literally not wrong lol

Even then cole still gets a lot of hate backlash randomly, example being the noname situation. Like there was also a whole F*** J. Cole movement back in 2016
He’s right
I’ve always found it interesting how both Drake and J. Cole are mixed black men with black fathers and white mothers, but only Drake has gotten the criticism and reputation of being a “lightskin / half-white” rapper by the hip-hop community
