A.I. is masterful, but Spielberg still overrated for me. Even though I'm personally lukewarm on him at best, I also think that it's he's "inherently" overrated due his status in pop-culture imo. He occupies a position where his name implies an amount of hype that's just impossible for him (or anyone) to meet

I guess it seems like a lot of names — especially since most folks in this thread have only named 3 or 4 at a time — but that's really not that many directors. It's honestly rare for me to come across a director a genuinely dislike.

But also, when I say I think a director is overrated, that doesn't necessarily mean I dislike them (though a good chunk of my list above are indeed ones I don't really care for).

Jodorowsky and Wachowski didnt make the list so

Like I said above: That's really not many directors at all. It's only 19.
But more importantly, saying someone is overrated is not the same as saying "I don't like this director".
