Wanted to initially get into BJJ(come from wrestling background) but my acid reflux is annoying and I have read that its worse when grappling .
How long did it take you guys to get adequate/decent in Muay Thai/boxing?
Some people pick up on it faster than others, what helps is practicing & studying stuff when you have free time outside of the gym as well.
It took me a year and some change for me to feel comfortable but thats cuz I was inconsistent when I first started.

how many days were you training btw?

anywhere from 2-4. But I would only train at the gym and that's it. When I started taking it seriously I would do cardio / weights / and some training at work in my down time and do my best to make it 3-4 days of training.
This depends heavily on a lot of things such as where you're training, how much you're willing to practice, and what you consider decent. It took me about 6 months before things started to click for me and 1.5 years before I started competing
Take it real easy on your first class and dont try and catch up with the more experienced members, go really slow at your own pace. I threw up violently my first Muay Thai class just from skipping for 15 mins to try and keep up with people who had been doing it for years. You eventually build up your fitness at your own pace and go up from there
always keep your own pace
i was trying to narrow down between boxing and BJJ but i found out about muay thai and i fell in love with it once i got a membership
remember the goal is always have fun, work your own pace
starting off i couldnt even partner up with anybody but i would just practice on my own in instruction classes just because it was fun to me and i enjoyed it, i liked what i was doing.

I heard its better to get at least 6 months of boxing before doing muay thai just to get your hands better and then transition into muay thai.

never tried boxing classes myself bro ! instruction classes in muay thai take it really slow and easy on you trust me if you need help all you gotta do is ask about
boxing helps but if your legs arent good then muay thai will f*** you up regardless, even in the warmup stretches lmao
at that point you could go with either

I learned boxing and Muay Thai at the same and polished the skills up separately, if you can do both try that but if you have to do one do Muay Thai as it has more weapons and you can then sharpen your hands and add to your arsenal, harder for a boxer to learn all the Muay Thai stuff than a Muay Thai guy to get better hands imo

There's an mma gym nearby that teaches boxing muay thai and other martial arts.
I'll do what you did and refine both tbh at the same time.

have you ever used your muay thai skills for self defense?

trained both boxing and muay thai, the skills dont transfer like that. the stances and what not are way different.
but it's fun to sharpen up the skills for both

I have HORRID acid reflux but never had issues throwing up while greco-romaning bro is that what you mean tho? That you puke easily when fighting? (Cuz it happens to some ppl, no judging).
But yeah, people overestimate what you need for good self defense.
Boxing, Muay Thai, Grappling/Wrestling & light BJJ.
I already got all these down except Muay Thai, and I feel that it’s the most important one. Will definitely pick it up when the pandemics over.
I picked up Muay Thai about 6 weeks ago. Been going 2-3 times a week since then. I’ve still got a lot to learn but its a lot of fun. Great workout, hardest part for me has been adjusting to the cardio demands. Its tough but worth it.
Also doing jiu-jitsu btw, I don’t have any issues with acid reflux tho.

Nah I just get heartburn and sometimes get a little acid come up to my throat. Nothing serious. I just heard grappling makes it worse.
I've done bjj and wrestled before so i'm not in any hesitation to get back to grappling.
I'm trying to learn a striking art too and I believe Muay thai is the best.
How's your experience with mma and acid reflux? are you taking any pills atm?
Good luck and do some running if you can will definitely give you a head start!
Will do bro, thanks!
