Song is a disaster for real
Jack A. is single-handedly ruining her career but play stupid games win stupid prizes I guess
ruining her career..........when melodrama wouldn't have happened without him..........
Jack Antonoff ain't the problem. blame your pop faves for growing up and wanting their music to reflect that lol
I don’t see what ppl want from Jack Antonoff, he’s not forcing these women to work with him and it’s not like they don’t have input. This is obviously what they want to make
The fact that he doesn’t seem to be able to renew his sound is his failure.
He singlehandedly created a new formula for pop music and the fact that he’s not able to transcend it means he’s doing more harm than good.

I don't think that's what ticking people off. There's this thing imo where people are trying to hide bad music behind the "she/he grew up and y'all just don't get it stop trying to lock her/him in one particular spot".
(And tbh it's pretty hard to argue against the fact that some people are actually like that and want an artist to stay in one single lane like they were robots and not human beings)
But in that case the music is just bad there's 0 emotion in it, songs ain't even catchy, lyrics are flat as hell, the production feels standardized...
This is def not about refusing the idea that she's growing up it's just that the music ain't it

oh sure there's truth to the first part of what you're saying, fans do that.
i guess i look for different things in different artists. lorde is a songwriter first so this shift isn't at all surprising to me. i don't think the lyrics to Stoned are "flat" at all, and i really like the sentiment of the song. i also think the chorus is a nice lil clever part to an otherwise pretty serious song. i like jack's production for the most part but i know a lot of people feel the way you do so i won't speak on that.
it may not be something with a sticky melody or that i'd wanna play in the whip but she's given us that already. and i'm sure there'll be some of that on the album too

Yeah the "she grew up" thing is pretty funny because she's trying to frame herself in this position of maturity when the sentiment of the lyrics are still quite naive lol
but that's a whole other conversation

To each his own obviously I'm glad that you liked the song but for me personally I couldn't help myself but noticing the similarities between the 3 songs she dropped and the music of someone like Faye Webster for example. And what strikes me the most in this comparison is how much Faye's music feels genuine as hell exploring HER own sound with awesome, and I can't stress this enough, lyrics while Lorde's delivery, on this album at least, (and I wasn't a huge fan of Pure heroin if we're being dead honest) feels like something that was packed in a factory with being a product that would be easily received by everyone as its sole purpose.
NFR was great, everything else just sounds like he’s trying to recapture that sound for other artists and it just comes off bland. Very one dimensional producer
Daddy’s Home out now

Exactly the Stoned lyrics are exactly the kind of lyrics she could've written for a Melodrama song there's no palpable growth in them

these lyrics would sound completely out of place on melodrama

she threw her cellular device in the water tho

i listened to faye webster's album and enjoyed it. i can dig everything you're saying there. but when it comes to people saying artists are/feel manufactured and being a "product" and all that, that's where i have to fall back. i won't even pretend like i can carry that type of conversation.
hopefully the singles don't leave you too cold and you can go into the album with an open mind. maybe it'll come together for you as a whole.
sometimes i do wonder what tf y'all be listening to when you hear a song
"Got a memory of waiting in your bed wearing only my earrings
We'd go dancing all over the landmines under our town
But the sun has to rise
When it does, we'll divide up the papers
Two former hell-raisers
I'm still crazy for you, babe"
If this isn't Melodrama lyrics... (the whole song actually looks like this too)
she threw her cellular device in the water tho
lmao it's giving... superiority complex
I could write my own feelings about it but someone in the RYM comment box of this single was spitting about ageism and s*** like that and it's pretty much how I feel

melodrama was all about dancing and heartbreak and partying
and this line specifically alludes to the eventual end of that dance. literally reading the newspaper with her partner. no party in sight lmaooo

you could do this for most artists in existence, if not all. you can take a few lines, but all that does is completely remove them from the context of the song, absent of any sort of theme or story
if you took the lyrics of this song, and put it in place of lets say, the louvre, youd wonder why the f*** the content is so different. especially because melodrama follows a very particular theme, arc, direction etc., whatever you want to call it

Yeah that's what I'm clinging on right now ngl because I'm such a huge fan of Melodrama and I was so excited to hear her again
But sometimes listening to an album as a whole makes way more sense than listening to separate tracks so I'll just cross my fingers
I think the lyrics not moving me like they previously did is also a kicker with this era.
And I say that as someone who isn't super make-or-break about songwriting generally, but for Lorde that's always been a strongpoint.
lmao it's giving... superiority complex

superiority complex because she made a personal decision to swear off social media and enjoy life outside and wrote an album about it
just say the songs are boring or whatever

Oh your view on this is pretty interesting. Imo it's about heartbreak but not in a conventional way more about losing the flame they had for each other. The line 'but the sun has to rise' marks the breaking point for me as she comes back from the realm of memories and has to settle for the kind of "platonic" lifestyle she's now sharing with her boyfriend/husband which is obviously bothering her hence the 'I'm still crazy for you, babe' a line meant to be a as a sort of a wake up call for him imo

The new Bleachers stuff sounds completely different from this, the producers job is to execute the artist vision and artist are coming to him for the specific sound, he’s not forcing them to do it and he’s doing a solid job of the sound they’re requesting

Read The Guardian interview where she's talking about "the sexy models on Instagram who made me feel inferior" as if someone was specifically targeting her.
I'm not saying that out of nothing lmao she's clearly positioning herself in this sort of sense and I wouldn't even mention that point if she hadn't echoed what I thought in the interview.
S*** sounds so spiteful but she's only 24
