gotta be honest I’m pretty disappointed despite really liking the singles
It’s not bad but it’s clearly not as good as her first two and is clearly not going to reach their level over time at least for me
It’s a shame too because she’s clearly improved vocally and I think her songwriting is probably better (more complex) here than ever before
but it just strips almost everything that made Lorde so great - the pop writing, the unique production, the edge and angst, the completely original but relatable lyrics, the complete self awareness
it reminds me a lot of what Frank did with blonde where he stripped down a lot of what made channel orange so successful but the difference is that Frank doubled down on relatability, he added back that unique production through vocal effects and to be honest he’s just a better writer than Lorde so he could pull it off
there’s plenty to like here but I just think it drags especially in the slower songs and regardless of the presence of some self awareness and satire it just feels nauseating at times
The biggest issue is that it goes from unbelievably relatable on her first two projects to borderline completely unrelatable on here in terms of being largely about fame and burnout and when you don’t have the pop melodys or the interesting production that just goes down like a lead balloon
It’s still like a 7 for me but yea it’s not at all worth a 4 year wait
Idk man people need to go back to Lorde's first two albums. Those were so mid for how self-serious they were, in retrospect.
no one agrees w you

it’s a shame I do think she’ll bounce back but artists taking 4 years at this point is just ridiculous unless you literally never miss

doubt you’ll like this tbh
But you’d probably like her first two albums if you gave them another chance
The p4k review is gonna unleash shambles
I think they’re just gonna give it like a 7.2 and call it a day
i almost get what they're saying but then again not really? you mind sharing why you personally echo their sentiment?
i haven't listened yet but i've seen lyrics and interviews about the topics mentioned.
I wouldn't know how to put it better than the quote—it isn't necessarily manipulative, but to focus on the negative aspects of fame is still nourishing the fame and can feel hollow. Lorde is all right, she's a diarist and the album is about a successful escape from that world. But when I see Billie Eilish team publishing a book with her baby pictures, I can't take seriously her complaints about fame: maybe talk to your parents first.
You can't always trust the sincerity of popstars, basically. Criticizing fame has almost become a necessary step in your career once you gain fame, like...they're in five stars hotel, wondering what to do next, and the songs are already written. But sincere portrayals are rare. Lorde has a few lines about being young and rich that sound flat, but I'd say that the overall arc of Solar Power works.
When I get home and have my second listen >

I don’t know bro I love this jammy ass summery music
facts I love that she brought a whole different vibe with this album, makes me want to watch midsommar for some reason lmao
So first listen done and I think agree with general consensus that middle part is so samey & blended into each other. I like to hear it again less noisy background since I was on main road for that portion of the album.
First couple and last couple tracks are great though. California is amazing
never rly f***ed w lorde, is this it ?
Her first 2 albums are pretty fire haven’t gave this one a listen yet
